Should a same-sex family or a family with a person from another country be in the same neighborhood, people would not be too friendly to them. Homophobia and xenophobia are quite prevalent, so many comments would be made against them unfortunately. 

Many religious comments predominantly or other stereotypically homophobic comments.

It is important that the child has a lovely home, which cares for it. A modern family like that would probably not cause any rumors as long as they are below the allowed noise level.
My own social circle would most likely be accepting of the modern family. My street is usually busy and I rarely notice familiar faces unless it's the neighbors from the house I live in. But if like a section of the family moved in our apartment unit I don't think majority of my neighbors would bat an eye much because all of us happen to be of immigrant descent and we try to be friendly with new tennants and mind our business. I do have one neighbor who is xenophobic but she never starts any drama or whatnot. Especially the older people, who are rooted in the town would at least look at them wierdly. That even happens to me (presumably) because I have a beard. I think they might have prejudices about same-sex couples since heterosexuality is the norm for them.
