         <title>Shakespeare&#39;s life</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Shakespeare was born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England to John Shakespeare, a glover ( who died in 1601) and Mary Arden.  We are not sure of Shakespeare's exact birthdate (23rd or 26th of April). He had 5 brothers ansd sisters. 2 had died before he was born.He was 18 when he married Ann Hathaway who was 26. THey had 3 children, Susanna (clever lady he was proud of, to whom he gave most of his property) , Judith ( whose unfaithful husband brought scandal to Shakespeare) and Hamlet( who died at 11). He wrote 37 plays.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Plays had a bad reputation ansd London authorities refused to allow plays.</div><div>The name of the first theatre was The Theatre (1576). The globe was the most famous one (1599). It burned in 1613.</div><div>People mostly stood in the pit before the stage while the rich sat in chairs on the side of the stage itself. Performances took place only in the afternoon because there was no artificial lightning. Women could not perform plays and females roles were peformed by young boys</div><div>If they didn't like the performances, people threw tomatoes at the actors.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Elizabeth 1st</strong><br>The last Tudor monarch, she was born on 7 September 1533, daughter of Henry VIII and Ann Boleyn. She succeeded to the throne on her half-sister’s death 1558). She was very-well educated, very intelligent, could speak 5 languages. She reigned 45 years and was considered as a shrewd monarch, gifted for leadership, a selfless queen who had “married” the nation. </div><div>Her reign saw brave voyages expeditions (which prepared England for colonisation), trade expansion (East India Company). It was a period of great dangers, there were lots of threats of invasion from Spain, France. Northern Ireland was in rebellion. There was also a severe economic depression in the 1590s.</div><div>Arts flourished, theatres thrived so lots of plays were performed. This Queen was called Gloriana because she had a reign of success and triumph. She was also called the virgin queen because she never married. <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Music:</strong><br>Queen Elizabeth was a patron of all the Arts and encouraged Elizabethan composers and musicians.<br><strong>Trumpets</strong>, <strong>flutes</strong>, <strong>trombones, crumhorn</strong>, <strong>shawm,</strong> <strong>fifes, hautboys</strong> <strong>harpsichords</strong>, <strong>organs</strong>,were Elizabethan musical instruments. The <strong>lute</strong> was the most famous.<br><strong>Food</strong>:<br>Poor people, in general, had humble and unvaried diets (bread being the staple food with eggs, soup) , whereas the rich of Elizabethan England ate well: all kinds of meats (peacock, swan, goose), expensive fruit like peaches, oranges and pomegranates. <br><strong>Entertainment:</strong><br>Banquets, fairs, plays, festivals, jousts, ournaments, games and sports which included archery, bowling, cards, dice, hammer-throwing, quarter-staff contests, quoits, skittles and wrestling, hunting <br><strong>Diseases:</strong> <br>Plague, bubonic plague, small pox, yellow fever</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>
