Seat it in even motion pulling lips out around the tray. Ask patient to lift their tongue and hold tray until material is set. The patient should be seated upright to minimize the collection of saliva and alginate at the back of the throat. To prevent gagging use fast set alginate, warm water and do not overfill the tray.

Maxillary positioning – Place the tray over the back molars first and seat the posterior teeth. Tilt your hand upward to seat the remaining anterior teeth in the tray and make sure to expel any extra alginate forward (out of the mouth) to prevent gagging. Make sure to move the lips out so that the alginate flows over the sulcus. Keep in mind to maintain slight pressure towards the back of the tray to keep the alginate from spilling out the back.

Mandibular Positioning – Ask the patient to lift their tongue until the tray is seated. Make sure to move the lips/cheeks up and around the tray if needed. Place the tray over the back molars first and seat the posterior teeth.

The materials you need are first always the safety protective wear, such as, Lab coat, safety glasses, a mask, and protective gloves.
All the materials should be out and ready for use. Needed supplies are 2 mixing bowls and two spatulas, one each are used for filling a maxillary tray, and a mandibular tray. The both arch trays are needed to keep the material in place. Sometimes dental wax is needed to form the end of the trays to make a longer, better impression. The material used is Alginate mixing powder, its measured by an alginate scooper that comes pre measured with the powder. To form the impression material together mixing a manufacturing amount of H20 to the material is needed. The use of all the materials should have been used by now. The only thing is when its all set up already it can be disinfected and wrapped in a damp paper towel to keep moist.
