Team building activities are great ways to increase motivation and collaboration within a team. They allow for communication within team members and showcase the members strengths and weaknesses. Team building is a vital part of a healthy school culture. Educators look to other educators for ideas, feedback and help. Without a team bond, teachers can feel isolated and alone. Positive team building helps bridge that gap. A fun team building activity that my first grade team participated in, was a selfie scavenger hunt. We had to solve clues and take a selfie when each task was completed. After all selfies were taken, we had to text the images to our principal. It was a fun game and we won! -Allegra Maddux

The benefits of team building activities is that team members have to communicate, collaborate, plan, and motivate each other in order to work together. This activities help students to connect and help each other succeed. Participation from all the team members is very important. Team building activities are a great way for students to know and learn from each other. One of the team building activities I have done several times is two truths, one lie. I enjoy this activity because it is a fun way to learn two interesting things about your team members. Cecilia Martinez

Team building activities are great ways for kids to know each other- which is a great way to start the school year. But team building activities are great ways to increase collaboration amongst students. It's a great way for students to learn from each other, increase social skills, and become motivated. Team building is also important for teachers, we are always communicating with other teachers for help, questions or even just feedback on what works well for them. So, teachers collaborating is a great example for kids to see and model. I think team building is overall a great way for students and adults to get work done and learn from one another.

For me, I gave this activity to a math/science teacher to use in her math block. This activity was very useful for team building and increasing social skills amongst the children. The teacher gave out incentives for the activity to increase participation and the children bought in. This activity would be great for early in the year when we are trying to get the kids to communicate effectively. However, now in the year, the kids know each other already, but the activity does help the groups of kids that do not get along well with each other.

I LOVE this activity. I did it with my students at the start of the year. It was so exciting to see the students light up when they realized the pattern and then to start strategizing and helping each other out. It was a wonderful activity to create a sense of community in the classroom. My students were even talking about it on their way out to recess. The only drawback is that if you don't have a multiple of four students in your classroom you have to improvise a little bit and have different sized groups. You also have to be a bit organized with highlighter colors. It's totally worth the effort, though! - Sally O'Connor

I really liked everyone's posts on here. Team building can be crucial in all the different ways---as students, teachers, coworkers, cohorts, any group of people. Team building starts the bonds between people and helps people build up relationships with one another. From the student point of view, it gives students the opportunity to collaborate with one another and work together in ways where they can better each others education. When it comes to teachers and coworkers, it allows there to be a common understanding and collaboration to occur. It is key for teachers to collaborate with one another because it allows for time to bounce ideas off each other and find new ways to help better their students education.
