When Jeannette asks her father to stop drinking as her birthday present. Lori is certain that he'll break that promise, but Jeannette says It's his present to me. He goes for days not drinking, he even had delirium from not drinking. Then one day he came back drunk. This image is reflective of the time where Rex breaks his promise.😤

The time where the family moved to Rose Mary's mom's house in Phoenix. The house didn't have air conditioning so they had to leave all the doors and windows open during the night. Then one night the same old man who had eyes both on Jeannette and Brian came into the house. He molested Jeannette while she slept. She yelled out, "Pervert!" and kicked the man's hand away. Jeannette had asked her mom and dad if they could close everything when they went to sleep, but they didn't consider it. They both said that fresh air was an essential and that we refuse to surrender to fear. The image symbolizes when the man came at night.😧 👤

Fantasy vs Reality

The Glass Castle is project by Rex Walls which he has on a blueprint he carries everywhere he goes, the Wall's fantasy. In Welch the family attempt to build it but, ultimately fails. The reality of it is that they could never have it done by the they live and having a big garbage ditch next to their home. A mean boy named Ernie Goad comes by their house and yells, "Y'all Wallses don't burn garbage!","Y'all throw it in hole next to your house! You live in it!" Jeannette says Ernie is right we do live in garbage. This is their reality. The image is an example of fantasy vs reality from what Rex plans for the Glass Castle, but in reality the house they live in is their real world. 😢

When filmmakers come and tell Lori she'll have better chances of becoming a successful artist if she moves to Manhattan. When Lori shares this plan, Jeannette starts an escape fund to and both contribute to the piggy bank named Oz. Jeannette and Lori have had enough of their parents lifestyle and want what's best for their siblings, Brian and Maureen. One day Rex took money from Oz,"You bastard!" Lori shouted. "You stole out money!" Rex didn't like her tone, but who can blame her, that money was their way out. Lori complained she'll never get out of there. A week before school was out, Jeannette and Lori had $37.20 saved. A teacher named Mrs. Sanders was moving back Iowa her hometown. She asked Jeannette if she wants to go with her to help look after her two toddlers she'd pay her two hundred dollars. But Jeannette decided no to instead she offered Lori to go with her. That way by the end of summer she can buy a bus ticket to New York City. Mrs. Sanders agreed. This shows Jeannette coming of age where she takes matters into her own hands and shows of maturity for her and Lori's well being. 🗽💲📚🎨

Jeannette has known for years that her parents who they truly are. Her dad a drunk and her mom a selfish-adventure addict. When Jeannette moves to NYC she hears that her parents are on the news that they moved from Welch to New York City. She sees that they haven't changed one bit aside from trying to help them in Welch and now. Rose Mary is still a hoarder and Rex an angry lashing out drunk. In the end she accepts for they are even though she can't change them. The image is an example of Jeannette accepting for who her parents are.💞

When Rex refused to believe what he was told in church and to believe in God. Rex was raised a Baptist, but doesn't like religion. He only believed in science and reason. He had to to church only on holy days of obligation and Rose Mary refuses to have children unless he agrees to raise then as Catholics. One day Rex is unable to stand it. He shouts out something to challenge the priest. He'd holler, "Yo, Padre!" The priest usually ignores him, but he was so persistent in getting his attention. In the end Rex goes on about the scientific impossibility of miracles then the ushers had them leave. The image represents one person does not think or act like other just like Rex when he refuses to believe what the priest is saying that others believe in while he does not. 🚫
