Refections on the 7 intelligences and the intelligences I need to focus on.

As a leader, reflecting on ALL the 7 intelligences will help me with effective leadership practices.

STRATEGIC INTELLIGENCE will help foresee the future needs of the school. This will involve balancing immediate needs with future aspirations.

REFLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE is all about self-awareness and self- evaluation and learning from past mistakes.

RELATIONAL INTELLIGENCE is about building and maintaining strong, positive relationships with all stakeholders.

ENTREPRENEURIAL INTELLIGENCE involves innovation, risk taking and resourcefulness.

PEADAGOGICAL INTELLIGENCE involves staying informed about the latest effective teaching practices and supporting teachers in professional development.

HEURISTIC INTELLIGENCE involves taking decisions under pressure.

CULTURAL INTELLIGENCE involves creating an environment where all cultural perspectives are valued and integrated into the school’s practices and policies.

I need to focus more on HEURISTIC intelligence and ENTREPRENEURIAL intelligence.

Q. To what extent do you lead, facilitate and promote a collaborative professional culture in the faculty?

ANS. I create an environment among the faculty where we all work together towards common goals. I encourage everyone to share their best ideas, resources, and feedback openly, which builds trust and a strong sense of responsibility among us.

Q. To what extent do you model, promote and develop positive, respectful relationships within the school and wider community?

ANS. I lead by example, consistently demonstrating respect, empathy, and active listening in all interactions with students, staff, and parents.

Q. To what extent do you continually reflect on your leadership style and the impact your leadership is having on others?

ANS. By regularly seeking feedback from colleagues and engaging in self-assessment, I stay aware of how my actions and decisions influence the school community. This ongoing reflection enables me to adapt my leadership approach to better meet the needs of my school.

Q.To what extent do you demonstrate that you are open to new opportunities as they arise?

ANS . I encourage staff and students to welcome change and try new things. I regularly attend AECED workshops to stay updated on the latest in preschool education. I keep open communication with colleagues, students, parents, and the community to stay aware of new opportunities that fit my school's goals. This helps me bring in new ideas in the teaching learning process.

Q. To what extent do you regularly articulate and promote a vision for the school’s future in collaboration with the school community?

ANS. I often talk and keep reminding my staff about the school's vision and goals in meetings and events, making sure everyone knows and supports what we want to achieve. I encourage teachers to share their ideas and thoughts so that our vision can change and stay meaningful over time.

On a closer introspection of my inner self, I probably possess a blend of all kinds of leadership mentioned in the think piece. Probably I lean a little more on Heuristic Leadership ( does it mean I am Jack of all leaderships; master of none?)

Heuristic Leadership comes naturally to me. Given a problematic situation , I immediately work on the best possible solution to fix it, rather than dissecting it as to who? what? when? how? etc. about it. ( The timely solutions have been effective.)

I feel we can include Laissez - Faire leadership style wherein our team members should be trained to take decisions in the absence of the head of the organisation. This way the next in line successors can be identified and trained.

I need to focus on strengthening and honing strategic and entrepreneurial leadership . For which I need to build up my innovative abililies

Thank You!!

My responses are in a nutshell and concise.

Let me confess ; wasn’t aware of so many types of varied leadership intelligences. It took a couple of reads for me to identify my style of leadership. Initially could relate to all in fragments and bits and eventually could resonate with “ Relational intelligence”. To what extent do you • focus on cultivating trusting, respectful and collaborative relationships across the whole school. 	It is one of my priorities to have fair, honest, impartial & consistent interactions with staff and students. Focusing on wellbeing of all involved. • ensure systems and resources are adequate to nurture collaboration and that people feel they can take creative risks 	Through continuous learning, planning and assessment am attempting to fostering a culture of support where we all work towards a common goal. Also motivating educators to try out new things and to see whether it worked well or not. open to ideas and discussions ! • demonstrate the ability to engage with people who hold different (cultural) values, show empathy for them and their perspectives 	This has come with conscious effort by asking myself to be reflective, patient, tolerant and genuine in understanding others. Encouraging the same values in my team. • promote and build the leadership capacity of others, developing future leaders through coaching, mentoring and succession planning 	Have always believed in delegating work and empowering my team. It has helped me in identifying teachers with leadership potential through their attitude and behaviour towards the task given and their colleagues. • model, promote and develop positive, respectful relationships within the school and wider community? 	By showing respect and developing partnership with parents, having effective and meaningful conversations & communication. Also providing constructive and valid feedback helps me in building a positive work culture.

After reading an article on leadership pathways and leadership intelligence, I reflected on how different aspects of leadership intelligence relate to me. Leadership intelligence includes strategic, relational, pedagogical, cultural, reflective, entrepreneurial, and heuristic intelligences. Some of these come naturally to me, while others are more challenging or less familiar.

1. Which intelligence comes most naturally to you? How do you know?

Answer: Relational intelligence comes most naturally to me because I enjoy and believe in teamwork. This brings about constructive work and positive results. I find it easy to build relationships, foster collaboration, and create a supportive community.

2. Which intelligence is the most challenging to demonstrate?

Answer: Heuristic intelligence is the most challenging for me.

3. Which intelligence do you value in others and why?

Answer: I value strategic intelligence in others.

4. Which intelligence is least familiar to you and why?

Answer: Heuristic intelligence is least familiar to me .

5. Is there anything you would like to add to the following intelligences: strategic, cultural, pedagogical, relational, entrepreneurial, reflective, and heuristic intelligence?

Answer: I would like to add humanistic intelligence. This focuses on understanding and promoting the well-being of individuals in the school community, involving empathy, compassion, and ethical leadership to support the holistic development of students and staff.

Reflecting on these intelligences helps me understand my strengths, identify areas for growth, and foster a more inclusive and effective leadership approach.

Compilation of a montage of observable actions which demonstrate each of the intelligences

Admissions to nursery in school has gone down for two years ....we put our heads together ,do some research on the reasons which has led to the decline. We demonstrate creative thinking, see solutions to problems, innovate, deviate from set paths, recognize opportunities and take advantage of them......an excellent demonstration of Strategic Intelligence .

Organizing a school fair by putting together diverse groups of students and staff , providing opportunities for multilingual dialogue and improving cross cultural communication skills, taking school students on a trip to a tribal area or on a student exchange program.....Cultural Intelligence

Pedagogical Intelligence aptly demonstrated when creating developmentally appropriate lessons , adapting material to the needs of specific students, using multiple ways to represent ideas and concepts.

Interactions between employees on an out reach programme filled with activities and games meant to foster empathy, collaboration, team work are embodiments of developing Relational Intelligence.

Doing things that scare oneself, being curious about the unknown, taking responsibility to learn new things and do things differently, viewing problems as a challenge and setting goals constantly all point out to an Entrepreneurial intelligence.

Reviewing a project through a different lens, critically analyzing each aspect , going over the weak points, thinking differently about the things that went right effectively show a Reflective intelligence.

School dispersal time, buses have not yet arrived to carry students home, technical glitches in the public address system......It is the Heuristic Intelligence that spurs the on the spot decisions taken and relayed effectively to each other to complete the task in best possible way without having the luxury of a well thought out plan .

Which intelligence is the most challenging to demonstrate?

I feel Reflective intelligence is the most challenging to demonstrate as it is not objective in its very nature and depends very much on the emotional state of person at different times

• Which intelligence comes most naturally to you? How do you know?

Heuristic intelligence is what occurs most naturally to me. I am mostly naturally inclined to think in a solution oriented way and my reflexes spur me to focus all my energy to the task/problem at hand rather than overanalyzing the why and how of it.

Which intelligences do you value in others? Why?

I most certainly appreciate deeply and value the Reflective and Entrepreneurial intelligence in others, primarily because I find myself somewhat lacking in these intelligences and I aspire to achieve them through effort and will.

• Which intelligence is least familiar to you? Why?

I find myself least familiar with Cultural Intelligence . The journey of my life from childhood to date has been on the beaten path mostly and I have not had much first hand exposure to a wide range of diversity in terms of cultural traditions and social standing. I do , however enjoy reading or listening to tales of people belonging to diverse groups of culture in terms of race , educational levels or work .

Is there anything you would add to the following intelligence: Strategic, Cultural, Pedagogical, Relational, Entrepreneurial, Reflective, and Heuristic.

I am yet to delve deeply into each of these types of leadership intelligence.

Thanks and regards.

It is an amalgamation of insight, intuition, inquiry involvement , incorporation and implementation- a multi dimensional developing concept.

A montage of observable actions that demonstrate each of the intelligence is as follows:-

Strategic Intelligence: It needs planning for the future and in sync with the vision set for the school's future.

Relational Intelligence: One should understand and manage relationships with others. Create a collaborative culture.

Cultural Intelligence: It involves understanding and interacting with people from different cultures and promote intercultural understanding and respect.

Entrepreneurial Intelligence: One must be ready to take risks, be innovative, and look out for new opportunities. Explore new ideas , be resourceful and be resilient to challenges and changes.

Reflective Intelligence: One should be self-aware and reflect on their own thoughts and actions.

Pedagogical Intelligence: One must teach effectively and understand different learning styles. Regularly update ones learning -teaching practises

Heuristic Intelligence: It involves creative problem-solving using experience-based techniques.

Which Intelligence is most challenging to demonstrate?

The most challenging intelligence to demonstrate is:

Cultural intelligence because it needs understanding of various cultural norms and values especially in diverse and globalized setting .One must adapt one's own behaviour accordingly. It also involves overcoming deep-rooted biases, pre conceived notions which are deeply ingrained in us and are very difficult to change.

Which intelligence comes naturally to you? How do you know?

Relational intelligence comes naturally to me.

I have build a good rapport with not only my teachers in school but also have a very good relationship with my peers( Principals of other schools) as I have always believed in creating positive, productive and inclusive environment.

Which intelligence do you value in others? Why?

I value the Cultural intelligence in others.

Because it helps one in building trust with diverse groups, improves one's ability to communicate effectively with people of different cultural backgrounds, reduces misunderstanding, everybody feels respected and valued.

Which intelligence is the least familiar to you? Why?

Entrepreneurial Intelligence is least familiar to me.

Working in an established organisation-- there are challenges.....

To foster new ideas or change ingrained practises .

To focus on stability efficiency and risk management over risk taking.

To continue tried and tested methods.

Resistance to change etc

Is there anything you would add to the following intelligence.

Yes..

Cognitive intelligence

The ability to think critically.

Develop the skills by having hands on experience.

Solve problems

Make decisions

Regards
