Mani Bhavan was the home and headquarters of Mahatma Gandhi where he held many spirited meetings with the national congress and other important national figures.

1919

He initiated the first nationwide satyagraha movement from Mani Bhavan. This movement was initiated to fight against injustice caused by the British rule in India. He also created a newspaper called 'Satyagrahi' from Mani Bhavan.

1920

Gandhi was supposed to launch another movement but alas it turned out to be the day India lost one of it's most vital freedom fighter, Lokmanya Tilak. Gandhi initiated the Tilak Swaraj fund to contribute to helping his freedom struggle.

1921

When Prince Edward of Wales arrived in Bombay Gandhi boycotted him by lighting foreign cloth on fire. This boycott also included people not welcoming him on streets and staying in their homes.

1931

The national congress sent Gandhi to London as representative for a meeting. The meeting turns out to be unsuccessful for Gandhi but after he returns everyone is desperate to see him at Mani Bhavan.

1932

Gandhi is arrested from the terrace of Mani Bhavan. Before he is gone he leaves a message for his followers to stay strong. His arrest was due to the continuous disobedience of the national congress towards the British rule.

June 18th 1934 turned out be the Mahatma's last day at Mani Bhavan.

The Indian national congress preserved Mani Bhavan as a museum which was open to tourists as well.
