He also cares about mama because he wants her to be happy with what she wants done.

-Yes, I sympathize with him because I think Cory has many strengths and weaknesses. I think his biggest weakness is not being able to understand that his father is just trying to do what he believes is best for his son. His biggest strength is being able to stand up to his father and take the risk of getting beaten, all to show his father that he wants a life for himself. He has a dream, and his father prevents him from following it, which hurts him. Although his father doesn’t want him to get hurt, it is a different time from when Troy was rejected for baseball. More African Americans are now being accepted into sports, such as baseball and football.

5. Painting that Relates to Cory

I chose the painting the Sistine Chapel. I believe this relates to Cory because, in my opinion, he works so hard to structure himself, yet he doesn’t try as hard to please his father. This symbolizes the hand that is more relaxed. At the same time, Cory wishes to pursue his dream, so he works hard. He lies to his father in order to continue playing football, and he confronts him. He takes so many risks to eventually achieve happiness. This symbolizes the hand that reaches out.

" You miss 100% of the shots you dont take" I think this quote relates to Cory wanting to be a football player even though the odds are low he tries to overcome them because then he at least has a little chance. I think that he wanted to at least try because if he didn't he was automatically failing.

I think this song relates to Cory because he never stopped fighting for what he thought was right and he had a lot of motivation to keep chasing his dreams. The beginning to the song also relates to him because he was like a small boat in the ocean. he was a male sports player who was African american which made him not stand out as much but he didn't care and still tried to be a pro football player.

9. Theme of “A Raisin in the Sun”

The focus of “A Raisin in the Sun” is chasing your dreams. It’s about how a family struggles to find their way to express the “American Dream” while being African American. The author writes, “Just tell me where you want to go to school and you’ll go. Just tell me what it is you want to be-and you’ll be it… Whatever you want to be! - Yessir! (He holds his arms open for TRAVIS) You just name it, son… (TRAVIS leaps into them) and I hand you the world!” - Walter to Travis. This quote represents the theme of following your dreams. Walter explains to his son that he can attend any school he wishes, if he sets his mind to it. As an African American in this time period, going to college is a dream come true.

10. The Theme of Fences

The main idea of Fences is the importance of family. Things fall apart in the Maxon household many times, but they always stay together, apart from Cory who returns later to form a strong bond.

“It’s my responsibility!” You understand that? A man got to take care of his family. You live in my house… sleep you behind on my bedclothes… fill you belly up with my food… cause you my son. You my flesh and blood. Not cause I like you! Cause it’s my duty to take care of you!” -Troy to Cory. This represents that Troy is still a father, and he is still there for his son no matter what. He is there to feed him, provide him with shelter, and give him clothes to wear. But he doesn’t have to “like” him, he just has the responsibility of taking care of him.

11. Compare and contrast the two plays.

Comparing the two plays, both families struggle with financial problems. In the Maxon household, the only person who works is Troy, and he doesn’t bring in a lot of money. He works as a garbage man, and later gets moved up to the driver of the garbage truck. Similarly, in the Younger household, Walter and Ruth work, and they make just enough money to provide for their family. A difference between the families is the way the men betrayed the rest of their families. In Fences, Troy has an affair, which is something that can never be taken back. The love between Rose and Troy instantly disappears, as it was barely there before and is now completely gone.
