Its the argest river in Central Asia and it is shared by 6 countries. This river also feeds the Aral River, which is near extinction, so protection of the Amu Derya river becomes important. Amu Derya river is known as the Ceyhun river.

The country that this river passes from are poor and its economy is based on farming which makes water sources more important for both government and local public.
