David Taylor here. Tough to put down in words how much I cared for Andrew White. He was one of my dearest friends in high school in Victoria. He sang lead vocals in a song I wrote in grade 10 in our school choir at Saint Michael’s and listening to it nowadays takes me back to that time and the memories come flooding back. Memories of skiing at Big White. Memories of our time spent in Victoria. Andrew showed me a love of Pink Floyd, a love that continues to this day. I may not have seen him for many years but he will always be in my heart. I love you like a brother Andrew and I send my condolences to his family and friends. David Taylor. Campbell River BC.

Maninder from Hong Kong here. I had the pleasure of sitting beside Andrew at 4AM to 7AM one morning watching Canada win gold at the Olympics in Hockey. There was a bunch of us Canucks together who all played (girl) hockey for the Cricket Club. Once they won, Andrew ordered the first pint. I had to go to work. I had a pint with him. We all went to work and left hm with a pint in his hand and a giant smile on our faces. What a great moment. I didn't know Andrew as well as I might have wanted to, but every interaction was one of joy, happiness, smiles and FUN! A great man who will be missed.

Of course there was plenty of banter about the Flames and Canucks as well, and it would always bring about some big laughs. It was truly the highlight of my week being able to get together with him for those lunches. He was just such a kind, warm, generous soul that was so easy to get along with.

Even when he wasn't feeling well, Andrew continued with the project of helping me become a better guitar player - if he wasn't up for getting together, we'd zoom and he'd teach, feedback and work on my songs with me. One time when I picked him up to take him up to Craig's, he pulled out the sheets for a song of mine and led me through potential changes - ones he had clearly spent a significant amount of time on. His improvements remain embedded in the final version.

Val-Marie here from Edmonton…. Well I’ve been involved since the beginning of Jennine and Andrew’s love story…I was on their first date! Spent countless hours as a Middlesex audience member; cheering and dancing my butt off! Listening to Jennine telling me how wonderful Andrew was-he totally befriended all Jennine’s friends too-that’s how much he loved you Jennine! And when Jennine had to go back to university in Vancouver, Andrew and I had a standing platonic date on Saturdays in Kelowna. We went to movies, went to karaoke at RJ McMasters listening to wannabe cowboy crooners, and went to many pubs for drinks! This is where Andrew had a lasting impact on my life….I used to gobble down those complimentary bowls of nuts until Andrew said…you do realize that men don’t wash their hands after going to the washroom….you shouldn’t eat those things!!! 😂 Love you bud! You will be missed. I will keep my promise to you. We were blessed to have you in our lives. All my love to Jennine, Ella and Finnley.

I first met Andrew when we both joined Cathay in Adelaide Australia. We subsequently became good friends, with common work interests and a love for sport.
Andrew, Jennine, Ella and Finnley became part of our Hong Kong family. The family Christmas Day lunches were a very special time. Great memories of when our family visited Kelowna when they were on a Vancouver base. Especially when the Kiwis won the street Hockey match! Granted Ella was only five! I always enjoyed our catch ups at Staunton's for a quiet one. Andrew always meticulously researched any potential purchase, except the Saab car!!!! He was so excited to purchase the car for around $30,000 odd HKD. As he discovered later and in his own words 'Warren its a piece of CRAP'
When it came to sport he was so passionate about the Vancouver Canucks, as I was for Rugby and the All Blacks. I never did manage to sway him on the merits of Cricket though!

We will miss you my friend.

Warren, Sue, Imogen and Grayson Howe

Wellington
New Zealand

Philip and I were very fortunate to be able to travel to Hong Kong and spend special occasions with Andrew and his family. Andrew lived with us while attending flight school prior to being accepted as a Commercial Pilot for Cathay Pacific. A short story: At one time, Andrew’s father and another doctor flew to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and met with Sheik Wahlid to discuss opening up a new hospital there. I’m not sure how this happened, but Philip arranged for the Sheik’s son, Prince Mitib, to come live with us so he could go to the University in Kelowna. This was a total disaster, as Mitib brought his newly found girlfriends to the house to watch cartoons all afternoon, did a lot of drinking, and raided the freezer of gourmet foods. He was not here to learn and in short, he drove all of us crazy! As Philip was busy at the office or away at medical conventions, Andrew and I were left to deal with this. I knew Mitib would not take anything I said seriously (as I was a woman), so I explained to him that in his father’s absence, Andrew was the man of the house. Andrew spoke to him, and we consequently made arrangements for Mitib to rent a suite near the campus, where he could behave any way he wanted. The last we saw of him was in a hot car speeding through the streets of Kelowna. Apparently, he went back to Saudi shortly thereafter, leaving a $5,000 phone bill behind. After it was all done, we all had a good laugh about evicting a Prince!

Andrew was always kind, and now it is our loss and Heaven’s gain.

Hello. My names is Craig Thompson and Andrew was my friend. We flew together as crew on a Cessna Citation business jet for three years for a large Canadian forest company. When Andrew left, he went to work as a pilot for Cathay Pacific in Hong Kong. I eventually went on to become a Captain with WestJet Airlines. I am heartbroken that he is gone.

My wife and I were on a months long holiday in South America when Andrew finally got the diagnosis we were all dreading. COVID was just ramping up worldwide and any hopes of a quick trip to Hong Kong to see Andrew were quickly dashed. I will forever regret not being able to see Andrew during his terrible struggle with brain cancer. At the beginning we were able to text back and forth on a regular basis. As the disease progressed it was Jennine who kept me up to date on Andrew’s progress. Approximately three months before he passed we had a great hour and a half phone call. We both laughed about our experiences together and cried at the toll cancer was putting upon him. Typical Andrew he was more concerned about how it was affecting Jennine and his children that what it was doing to him. I will cherish that last call as long as I live.

I am not sure why, but once we started working together Andrew and I almost immediately formed a bond that lasted until he passed. While flying together we would laugh at the stupidest stuff, discuss the universe, talk about music, and so many other topics more than I can list. I always felt that with Andrew I could open up to him about anything in my life and he would never be judgemental. I have never had another friend like that in my life. I think Andrew understood me more than anyone else ever has. And I think I came to understand Andrew in the same way.

And the odd thing about Andrew and my relationship was that I was 24 years older than Andrew. It didn’t seem to matter. We got each others sense of humour. We got each others stresses and life’s worries. We had the same interests, worries, passions and beliefs.

We had a lot of crazy fun things happen during our hours in the air, and during our layovers. I remember fishing with Andrew in The Pas, Manitoba. The bugs were so bad in the summer that we went to a sporting goods store and bought gloves and hats with fine mesh that would cover our face and neck. One day we were out fishing for pickerel from this old wharf and we were covered head to toe to avoid the bugs. We had a case of beer and a package of small cigars. We poked a small hole in the mesh from our hats which we could smoke the cigar through, and whenever we needed a drink of beer, we would quickly lift the mesh and gulp a mouthful. While we were fishing a local native came walking down the rode, saw us, and came out onto the wharf. We offered him a beer, which he accepted, chatted with us for a while and went on his way. He was only wearing shorts and work boots. We laughed after he left about what he would tell his family and friends about those two crazy white guys fishing covered head to toe to avoid the bugs.

I used to drive Andrew crazy with attempts to embarrass him. We were on a day layover somewhere in California and realized we were too tired to go explore so we decided to get a couple of rooms at a nearby motel so we could get some sleep before we had to fly again later that evening. At the check in counter, I asked for two rooms with an hourly rate. I then asked if the rooms could have a connecting door in case I got feeling romantic later in the afternoon. Andrew was mortified, and the elderly, blue haired clerk at the counter immediately fired back at me that “they were not that kind of establishment.” I was laughing so hard at Andrews reaction but finally explained to the clerk that I was kidding and we were two tired pilots who had to fly again that evening. We got the rooms.

Andrew had a love for all living things. God help me if I killed a spider in his presence! One very snowy evening on the drive into The Pas a small white rabbit ran onto the road in front of us. Sadly, the car hit him. Andrew insisted that we turn around and go back and see if the rabbit was injured, with which I totally agreed. We drove back to where we had hit the rabbit and it was laying on the side of the road. I stopped the car and Andrew got out to help this poor injured animal. A few minutes later Andrew got back in to the car in tears. He told me that the rabbit was still alive but suffering badly and he made the horrible decision to wring its neck to stop its suffering. He knew it was beyond saving even if there was a veterinary clinic nearby, which there wasn’t. We drove the rest of way to The Pas in silence, and in tears. That was the Andrew I knew and loved.

I will miss Andrew for the rest of my life. Even though we didn’t see each other often once he moved to Hong Kong, I know we still had a strong bond. We both said many times that we have never had so much fun flying as we did flying together.

Andrew is and will be in my heart forever.

Craig Thompson

Kelowna, BC Canada

I met Andrew when our children were in Primary school at ESF Peak School. We later became neighbours at Bamboo Groove were our kids spent hours playing together at the amazing playground. At this point we became friends and kept in touch ever since, even after moving away from Bamboo Grove to the Goldcoast and later to Discovery Bay. I will remember all the diners and the good times we shared. A special fun night comes to mind at the Gold Coast Bayview Terrace when our children had fun at the swimming pool being chased by the guards and having a ball. Being Cathay Pacific myself, I shared common topics with Andrew and it was always great to discuss any issues with him. He always had good advice and was a true friend of the family. He once said to us that we were good as a group and should stick together. Andrew, we will miss you and your good humour, your positive attitude and keep you in our hearts forever. All our love to Jennine, Ella and Finnley.
Alex, Evelin, Aaron and Ella

A blurry pic of the 4 hockey poolies. I know that we all have tremendously fond (and also a bit blurry) memories of the many 'bet dinner' nights. Andrew's wins were few and far between but he always paid up in a mostly happily fashion and drank more than his fair share of red wine. We're all going to miss him having 7 Canucks on his teams and making wins quite easy for the rest of us. Moving forward, I'll now be be eating double the lava cakes in his honour at all hockey pool events. Many thanks, Rob

I had the extreme good fortune to have partied with this man in Hong Kong, New York and Vancouver. In the midst of all the drinks flowing, we would talk about the small, but beautiful and meaningful things in life. My home in Vancouver has your name donned on my wall. I remember we joked about how it's in the line of sight when I'm pooing and have the door open. You will be missed. When I see a plane fly above me in the sky, I will be thinking of you.
