In inglese l'articolo determinativo THE é invariato per genere e numero. Corrisponde all'italiano IL,LA,LO,L',GLI,I,LE.
Non si usa mai THE con i nomi di nazioni, ad eccezione di THE UK,THE USA,THE NETHERLANDS.

AN ,invece, si usa per nomi singolari che iniziano per vocale o suoni vocalici.

Con sostantivi che terminano in consonante+y si elimina la Y e si aggiunge IES:CITY-CITIES
