         <title>User Interface</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The user interface is the means by which the user can interact with an application or operating system.</p><p>There are different types of user interface:</p><ul><li>Menu: an on-screen list of options</li><li>Form: an on-screen form in which to type data</li><li>Command line: a space to type instructions</li><li>Natural language: a voice-based interface</li></ul><p>A user interface is often termed as being a GUI and a WIMP interface.</p><p>A GUI is the term for an interface that is based on graphics and pictures rather than text.</p><p>A WIMP (Windows Icon Mouse Pointer) interface is a particular type of GUI. Not all GIUs use windows, icons, menus and pointers but might use one or two of them.</p><p>All WIMPs are also GUIs, but not all GUIs are WIMPs.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The operating system is software that controls the allocation and use of hardware resources, such as memory, central processing unit time, hard disk space and peripheral devices. It performs basic data management tasks, such as recognising input from the keyboard, sending output to the display screen, and keeping track of files and directions on the hard disk.</p><p>The operating system is the core software on which programs depend. There are many different operating systems available, for example Microsoft Windows, BEOS, Linux and Unix.</p>]]></description>
