Due to a lack of staffing at this facility, many patients have been left to wait to be admitted. The NHS have a target to reach and maintain everyday - One that says that patients should never have to wait longer than 4 hours to be admitted into hospital once making the decision to do so. Sadly, the percentage of patients that were seen within the target limitations was 95% worse than the National average. This was almost constant from April 2014 to May 2015.
Some patients had to wait around 12 hours just to be seen by a qualified member of staff.

Maternity services within the trust had multiple issues regarding staffing, delivery of care and treatment, and people being at high risk of harm that could have easily been avoided.
In the emergency department, there was a shortage of both paediatric nurses and paediatric consultants. In fact, no consultants were present in the department at the time of inspection.

Walsall may have to cater to the masses (260k), and some people may argue that this is the reasoning behind their low performance rates - But after comparing a relatively small area (Walsall) to a large one (South London) it all becomes quite clear.
While yes, there is a high demand for healthcare professionals due to the amount of patients wanting to access healthcare, and this may be a reason as to why there are so many incidents regarding patient safety and mortality rates within the practice; South London NHS Trust serves 1.3 million residents of the local area, and out of their total 5586 incidents reported as 'patient safety issues', only 26 were reported as deaths. Their mortality rates are incredibly lower than that of the Walsall based facility, despite their additional patients. Does this mean that Walsall is slacking?

Source:
