(Paragraph 15). She has to use her emergency and saved funds solely to live somewhere, which is empty and small. She can barely afford to survive, if she were to get sick she would be done for.

There is little money involved in the typical American workplace and the employees are very annoyed about it. In paragraph 11, Nina sarcastically asks, "have we started making money yet"(11)? This quote references the very unfair working environments in a place like Jerrys., and how the employees think about it. There personality is almost formed around how they have to work everyday.

The workplace and employees are dangerous and unpredictable, often "feeling sick or overwhelmed" (paragraph 11).

In the restaurant business, especially at a place like Jerrys, the interactions can often be toxic or annoying. Barbara, states in paragraph 10 that often times the customers are the “major obstacle” (10). In a place where you have to interact with costumers every day, this sort of vibe is not one you have to deal with. When the costumers are a problem, the interaction between costumer and server becomes bad an not fun for either person.
