Then Lewis and Clark hired a Sacagawea Indian to guide them through the west until they reached the coast. It was called Manifest Destiny when traders, trappers made the path that would be known as the Oregon Trail, from 1811 to 1840.The Gold Rush trampled down the wilderness and railroads opened up from east to west.
