When the word hipster first originated, it was directly connected to Jazz, as the word itself was first used in the "Jazz era" to describe jazz itself. Even though the word itself has extremely changed music has always stayed involved. This is important because its more based on music than things that people assume its a negative thing.

It may not be the most hipstery song you've ever heard, but it could still be alternative, or fall under that category. This consist of all less popular bands, that would fall under the category of "alternative" music.

Most hipsters will show off their love for these alternative bands by incorporating the band name(s) somewhere into their wardrobe.

Hipsters prefer their less popular bands because they don't like to follow mainstream. They like The 1975 rather than Kanye West or Beyonce and they like it that way. In the two types of hipsters the ones tat are strongly against mainstream are the ones that are doing it for the image. The people who like the hipster culture it the culture itself dont tend to like that mainstream because they actually dont like the music the big artists produce.

Most important thing to remember with the hipster population is that there are two sides. The side that does it all for the image, and the side that does it for loving the actual lifestyle. Its very important to realize this, or else your view on "hipsters" could be forever wrong.
