In the book it says ‘I love him so much.’ This is describing how Jessica feels about Sherlock. I think Wendelin added this because when Jessica was in the hospital she longed to see Sherlock and feel his wet nose and slobbery kisses, and now Jessica is thinking to herself how much she loves him.

In the book, it says ‘I want to chase her up the stairs and yell at her for being bratty and unfeeling and... and just WRONG.’ This is powerful because Jessica is mad at her sister and wants to yell at her for her being ‘bratty’, but Jessica didn’t think about how she made others around her feel.

“I’m walking.” Page 183

This part is important because this that everyone had hope for a reason and all Jessica had to do was wait and now she has a leg and can walk again which was really important to her.

“Jessica Carlisle May have lost a leg, but she has not lost her spirit. Last Thursday she was back at the track, cheering from the sidelines as her teammates battled Langston High in a dual league meet. Next year she’d like to be back on the track. Running.” Page 199
This is important because this shows that Jessica has not given up on her Dream to run again and she has a goal run again.

“More weeds in my garden of worthiness “ . Page 265

I chose this phrase because it stood out to me. The author most likely put this in to tell how Jessica felt about herself. She thinks no one would be interested in her just because of her leg.

I wish more people would.” Page 261

I think the author put this in to show that everyone is someone and they are more than a condition, they’re amazing. You just need to talk with them to know them . You could figure out that some with a condition is just like you.

“pipe leg”. Page 266

I hate when Jessica says this, she says it all the time, but it annoys me so much. She thinks of it as one ugly thing on her body but, it’s something that’s going to provide what she wants and needs. Jessica thinks of her pipe leg like it’s a pile of junk. She needs to know that her leg is beautiful.

“One by one by one by one, that’s how I got through losing a leg” pg. 328

I chose this phrase because I think it’s so powerful to Jessica and to us. I think this is showing us that we should take things slowly to get through things. In the end it’s so nice to see that she has finally found herself and is happy. It’s showing how she and we can just go through things slowly and overcome it in the end.

Personally, I think think we should have seen more of Lucy and how she was involved in Jessica’s life. This also made me sad, because I had forgotten about Lucy and this was a great way to show Jessica hadn’t forgotten about her or what she had to go through.

“It’s a wild electrifying feeling, and once I get a taste of it, I get hooked.”

This is what Jessica says running is like.I choose this because it really makes you think of how Jessica and other runners see running. This really rides me deeper into understanding why Jessica runs. It’s a common question in the book, usually brought up by Rosa. The reason she asks this is because she has never ran and wants to feel what it’s like. This is why Jessica runs Rosa through ten miles.
