         <description><![CDATA[<div>Alternative to Lecturing?<br><br>Talk Read, Talk Write<br><br>Show teacher examples of group work/ strategies working at lower grade levels <br><br>Centers for students to cycle through<br><br>Interactive piece for each lesson/lecture <br><br>Breaking up PPT for students to look at in groups <br><br>Using Nearpod for group interaction<br><br>Sharing lessons through social media (posting to each other) see session tomorrow for more info<br><br>Fakebook App (closed environment) to assist students in sharing posts about content <br><br>Chart student engagement per class period (10 minutes in, we minutes, etc.) to show teachers that lecture isn't most effective way. <br><br>Asking students what they remember most next day after student centered activity <br><br>Pairing lectures with engaging activities <br><br>Varying activities throughout year to ensure all students are engaged<br><br>Covering material (lecture) doesn't mean you actually taught material <br><br>Flipped classroom? Activities in class, reading at home? (One school doesn't allow students to participate in school activity until home piece is done and school activity counts for large portion of grade so students are motivated to compete home piece)<br><br>Finding appropriate primary sources?  <br><br>Planning, time available to change classroom<br><br>Want kids to think like historian, need prior knowledge and access to materials. 8th grade material isn't as interesting to kids as 11th. <br><br>8th grade conceptually instead of chronological.
