Short Introduction

In this week's padlet we will reflect over the concert I was able to attend last week. On Wednesday, September 20, I was able to attend the symphony orchestra. I saw conductor David Itkin with guest star Misha Dichter on piano in the Murchison Performing arts center. The performance was Bernstein- Symphony No. 2, The Age of Anxiety. Initially, my reaction was very strange. These forms of music are all very much new to me. At first I thought this is another boring classical music performance. Having been my first symphony, I felt very out of place. The music, environment, and atmosphere all made me feel as if I did not belong. I sat for about 15 minutes thinking of how I couldn't wait to leave and finish this assignment. After sitting idle for a good period of time I started to focusing in on the performance. The music was hard to ignore and that in turn drew my attention to the composer. The music was soft and slower paced in some parts, then what seem out of no where it seemed every instrument was speedily playing at once. I actually found myself enjoy the tempo changes and variety of sounds and instruments. Overall my experience was enjoyable. I was able to experience something new and find a kind of music I'm interested in being more familiar with.
