         <description><![CDATA[<div>NoS <mark>1</mark>: this explains how atoms have evolved over time and shows the work Niels Bohr contributed to atoms.<br>NoS 9: shows students scientists contribution to atoms e.g. Bohr, Einstein, Rutherford. How their work helped us understand the atom as we know it today, impacting our society as the Americans used the uranium atom which was the centre of research into the development of the atomic bomb. Impacted our society when the first atomic bomb was introduced in world war 2, killing thousands of people.<br>NoS 10: appreciate how atoms have impacted our society. Linking again to the atomic bomb.<br>CW 4: how atoms are linked to elements, they are the building blocks of nature, an element is made up of one type of atom. Without having knowledge of atoms you cannot understand elements.<br>CW 5: understanding atoms in order to draw Bohr structure from the periodic table and how to predict the ratio of atoms in compounds.<br>BW 1: animal and plant cells building blocks to humans just like atoms are the building blocks to nature.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Managing information and thinking: students must develop the capabilities to manage new complex information about the subatomic particles of the atom and apply this to modelling the structure of an atom. Students will appreciate the world of chemistry and start to question ideas in science, lending them to thinking more about the contribution atoms have in the world around us.<br>Being creative: students must be open to creativity when using lego blocks as an example to understanding how the pieces of lego are like the protons, neutrons and electrons, that help form the building of an atom. This also helps students to calculate the protons and electrons in an atom in a more creative way,&nbsp; helping students to physically see the particles in order to count them.<br>Managing myself: looking back on learning of the atom, how learning in maths has contributed to learning of this e.g. understanding numbers when comparing mass and charges of protons, neutrons and electrons.<br>Being numerate: calculating the number of neutrons in an atom, using build an atom technology to help with calculations, seeing patterns in atoms.<br>Communicating: discussing models constructed with peers and teachers, communicating with teacher on questions relating to understanding the subatomic particles.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>While this goes into greater detail about explaining the structure of the atom the way it would be taught in third level education, I believe it is an interesting approach to teaching students about the structure.&nbsp;<br>The energy levels including s, p and d orbitals can be excluded but the idea of using a chocolate shop, the students themselves and shelves as a means of explaining the electron orbitals in a structure of an atom makes it easier to understand and is an innovative way of relating something difficult to a real life situation for teenagers.</div>]]></description>
