My Long Term Goal

My long term goal is to graduate college and have a career right after I graduate.

Short Term Goals

To attain this, I have several short term goals. Short term goals help me because they make me realize what I can do now, that can help me reach my goal at the end.

Short Term Goal #1

My first step is to take the career assessment test to see which career suits me the best.

The challenge that I may go through would be that the results might not be what I like.

The career test website is one resource because after I finish the test, it will list what careers are best for me, and I can click on them to read about what they do and how much they make.

Once I am certain what career I want, I can also talk to career services at NJCU (another resource) about this, helping me understand more about what that career does.

I would get this goal done by this year, November 2023.

Short Term Goal #2

My next goal is to take the right courses. To do this I can speak to my advisor.

The challenge that may come would be finding time to speak to my advisor and also the courses I need might be full.

This short-term goal is something I would complete every semester, every year; January 2024-January 2027.

Short Term Goal #3

This short-term goal now consists of working on my resume and cover letter. I want to do this so that way I can achieve an internship.

NJCU Career Services, My advisors, and even my family can help me work on my resume and cover letter.

The challenges that may come would be a lack of motivation and time management. What this means is, that I might not be as motivated to complete the resume and when the opportunity comes at that last minute, I end up procrastination.

This might be one of my biggest challenges yet and I do prepare to overcome this by using the reminder app on my phone, to constantly remind me to work on the resume.

I would complete working on my resume by January 2024. Following my sophomore and junior years, I would update my resume with career services.

Short Term Goal #4

Once my resume has been completed, I would then begin to apply for internships.

The resources I have to find internships are Handshake, LinkedIn, and NJCU Career Services.

The challenge that would approach would be not getting accepted into any internships.

I would get this goal done by January 2024. I would continue to apply to internships next year and the year after that as well.

Short Term Goal #5

My last short-term goal would be to get into an internship.

This is one of the most important goals because internships, add to my resume, and also eventually, if I continue to do internships, especially for the same company, It's a possibility I could land a job there after I graduate.

A challenge would maybe be finding internships at the same company or maybe not being offered a job, but even then, after I graduate, I can still apply to jobs, and with my resume built with different experiences, I am sure enough capable of being able to get a job in the career I am looking for.
