La lumière passe à travers les différents dioptres. Les rayons passent à travers l’objectif et forment une image sur le foyer (Le foyer est le point où les rayons convergent).
Oculaire: L'oculaire est une loupe perfectionnés qui permet d'agrandir l'image produite par l'objectif au niveau du foyer-image. La mise au point se fait en réglant la distance entre l'objectif et l'oculaire. Il peut être interchangeable.
Monture: Ils existent deux types de montures: La monture équatoriale ( qui comporte un axe parallèle à la rotation de la terre qui permet un suivi facile des astres) et la monture azimutale ( cette monture est utilisée pour les télescopes de petit diamètre. Etant motorisée, elle peut permettre le suivi d'un astre lorsqu'elle est pilotée  par un ordinateur. Elle comporte un plan vertical et un plan horizontal qui permettent de déplacer facilement la lunette).

L'ELT sera le plus grand télescope observant dans le visible et le proche infrarouge au monde : l’œil le plus grand au monde braqué sur le ciel. Son miroir s'étendra sur pratiquement la moitié d'un terrain de football.
ALMA:
Ils exploitent un télescopes Révolutionnaires conçu pour étudier l'univers.
ALMA est composé de 66 antennes de haute précision observant dans une gamme de longueurs d'onde allant de 0,32 à 3,6 mm. Son réseau de 12-mètres principal dispose de cinquante antennes de 12 mètres de diamètre chacune observant ensemble à la manière d'un seul télescope - un interféromètre
APEX: télescope avec des antennes qui ont des prototypes d'antennes d'ALMA modifié.
