What was interesting to us was how many ways this element can be expressed through music, and how diverse the musical examples can be. We discussed genres such as Pop with Bruno Mars, all the way to soulful music with Curtis Mayfield. With happiness or joy in music it can vary by person, since everyone has different musical preferences. That is why we decided to further break down this element, such as how certain musical notes are known to create this feeling. For example how sometimes it is expressed through the artist and their approach to the piece. The simple tone of one’s voice or upbeat tempo of a song is what may cause a listener to associate a song with happiness. Since we have noticed many ways that happiness can be expressed through music, it is very often for this musical element to be found frequently. The importance of this musical element is that everyone can relate to it, and probably has a musical example on the top of their head that would represent it.
