Leopold really wanted to take over Congo for it's great resources and wanted Belgium to have great power. When he finally did take over, he forced all of the citizens into labor and turned them into slaves. He accomplished this, however, through such inhuman treatment of the African laborers..." Leopold wanted all the resources from Congo, including rubber.
