Alec Hall

Alec Hall is a 16-year-old boy. He currently attends Westover High School in Westover, Delaware. He has been addicted to alcohol products since he was 14 years old. Before then, he was well-liked, had a lot of friends, and was on the National Junior Honor Society in school. Now, he’s completely opposite just because of one 20-year old lady who offered him out at the Weston One Hotel in Palm Shores because she thought he was cool while he was there for his 8th grade dance. He finally agreed to her explanation about alcohol after several attempts and now drinks 3 bottles of liquor a day (one at each meal) in their apartment. That is way too much alcohol for his age, even now. It’s also mind blowing that he found a way to escape from his parent’s “harsh” treatment. No one understands why he would want to leave that big beachside house in South Beach. Back to his girlfriend, she told him that alcohol stimulates the body to work hard as well as losing weight. However, the exact opposite happened. His speech is bad, he has no friends anymore, and has lots of vision problems. As a result, his grades are much worse and he has needed to visit the guidance counselor many times. Yes, he has been in the small Westover jail cell over 100 times in the past few years just because of the Westover Police Station being directly behind the school and him being too young to drink. Those officers know him very well. They even say that next year, if he keeps drinking, he will go to court in Harriston, the capital of the Ultimate Driving Universe. When I tested his alcohol level, it was 0.12. That is more than 3 tenths too much. Furthermore, Hall and his girlfriend are very bankrupt after spending money on so much vodka to drink at the local BBQ and foot massage as well as getting fined after numerous DUI attempts at the Kensington Go Kart Fun Center. It’s really sad that they don’t get how much go-karts are good for families and car shows in the community; they just want to destroy it. Overall, drinking alcohol has played a big role in Alec Hall’s life. It made him move away from his parents, get bad grades in school, and take part in more altercations. His guidance counselor does not think he will ever be accepted into a college, but will he recover as he moves through high school? Who knows?

Cora

You don’t plan to ruin your life. No one ever does, but this sort of thing creeps up on you when you least expect it. I met Cora at a library on campus. I would see her there usually every day, either reading for hours on end, or simply studying. She seemed like a sweet girl who didn't have much complexity to her. Almost like her whole life has just been spent reading, or being obsessed with a particular fandom such as Harry Potter. She had a really odd, but elegant sense of style, the kind you just don’t see anymore. I wanted to know her, but I’m very much introverted and it’s exceptionally hard to just go up to someone and introduce yourself. I decided to intentionally bump into her and knock the books out of her hand while she was browsing and proceed to help pick them up. Classic. We introduced ourselves and sat down together after I must’ve apologized to her 20 times. She told me about her studies (biology degree), and her favorite coffee shop, her favorite books, movies, music taste, where she wants to live, what she wants to do with her life and more. I said the same back. I couldn’t help but notice how put together her future looks. The one thing she didn’t tell me about was her home situation or in other words, her family. When asked about it, the conversation was slowly, but noticeably, shifted to a different topic. I figured it was a sore subject, so it was never brought up again. We were both juniors at Dartmouth, and both extraordinarily smart. A year later, our friendship had grown, we were inseparable, I’ve never experienced this with anyone before, but despite that, I knew something was going on. It wasn’t until we had been friends for approximately 16 months that I saw her smoking something (not any kind of cigarette) and sitting there, looking at these tiny, square, paper looking things that she seemed to be dissolving on her tongue. I was shocked, speechless, sullened. I stood there for a few seconds before I could even bring myself to think. I think I was more mad at myself for not realizing this was going on. I brought myself to a peace and decided instead of getting mad, I thought I should help. Nothing would get solved with yelling. At this point in the day, it was 10PM and I wasn’t expected back at the dorm till 11. I assume that's why she looked surprised that I was there, and I could tell she was ashamed. I asked to bring her to a local coffee shop that was closing soon. We went to Jerry’s, who if need be, would stay open for us. We go there so often together that Jerry knew our order by heart. He brought me a strong, plain black coffee and he brought Cora two croissants and a large iced coffee. We would all joke about her insanely large appetite by nicknaming her the bottomless pit. That joke never got old. Jerry could tell there was tension so without making the usual conversation, he just brought us food and went back to the kitchen. It was a good thing we were in our usual, isolated, corner spot at the cafe, and that no one was there at 10:45 PM, because as soon as I asked her what was happening, she started to sob. Pouring out what seems like every single thing she has hid from me for the past year. She was telling me about the toxic traits of her father and how it creates an unsafe environment at home. She told me about her brother that died abusing drugs. Knowing all that I asked why she still does them and Cora slowly, with tears streaming down her face, told me in a slightly louder-than-usual voice, “It’s not like I want this! I tried to stop about a month ago for you Linds. I knew eventually I would lose you, but I’m addicted to it!” She finished her sentence by wiping tears that were about to fall from her jaw line. I quietly muttered, “Addicted to what? M-might I ask.” I was about to cry but I knew I had to be strong, I am not the victim in this situation. In an almost scream, Cora remarked, “To Acid and Pot!”. We both went silent except for the sniffles and soft cries of Cora. Cars were whooshing by outside as the soft rain hit the windows. She had calmed down, and I found my chance to actually talk to her. She told me she started using about three years before she met me, and she was introduced to LSD at a party as a freshman. With her brother recently dying, she felt empty. He was a half to her whole. In spite of this, she took the drug. She said how she only uses it when I’m out because she feels ashamed that she can’t be her best self for her best friend. She only used Marijuana for the high, but when someone had told her that LSD can boost serotonin levels, without thinking about the downside, she hopped right into it and became an avid user, using it everyday since a long time ago which helped her fall into a deep depression. One thing that I remember from that day is that she said she hated using. Not because of the feeling during, but the feeling after. Whenever she tried to quit, she gave right back in. The saddest thing she told me was that she was surprised she wasn’t dead by now by how much she takes. I finally figured out the reason that I’m always the one paying for all three meals of the day. It wasn’t because she couldn't keep a job. Her family knew she was using it (well, her mother actually is the only one she talks to) as well but every time her mother tried to help, Cora would push her away. This is a completely new side to Cora I never knew existed. I wanted to help but I have never dealt with something like this before. She has been wanting to be put in rehab for a long time, but she couldn’t work up the courage to admit herself, so I said I would help. Looking back, I wish there was a more traditional way I could help, like staying with her 24/7 to keep her temptations shut off. While it was unrealistic, it was something I would've done to help her. The day had come where she would leave and we said our goodbyes while a Taxi, because Ubers weren't a thing back then, took her away. About a week later she died. That was the saddest day in my entire life. Her mother and I planned the funeral and attended a week later. Second saddest day ever. There is now a whole in my life where her beautiful soul once was. She’s gone but will forever be in my heart.

Jesse F- There once was a man named 🤬 who was 20 years old who lived in Green Bay Wisconsin. he was in his third year of college and was working a dreadful job at burger king. 🤬 was addicted to meth. Although he was only making 10 dollars an hour he still found a way to support his dirty habit. 🤬 went from a young man with a bright future to man who was depressed and lonely. You may ask how this all started, well this started one dark night when 🤬 was at a college party with all his friends. 🤬 was approached by one of his close friends and told that he should come with them because they were going to do something really fun. 🤬 was really excited and interested to what his friends where taking him to do. Well it turns out 🤬 was convinced by his dearest friend to try methphetmine. Than it took off from there, after just one try 🤬 was hooked and need the drugs just to function in life. The drugs started to take an impact on 🤬 as he started to notice malnutrition, weight loss, severe tooth decay and disorientation. About once a week 🤬 would buy an ace of meth from his dealer and usually end of snorting or injecting just enough to keep him going each day. 🤬 died 6 months later from an overdose on methphetmine. Hopefully 🤬's story will tell you to stay away from drugs and that your only get one life so you shouldn't mess it up.

Jermy was a 35 year-old contruction worker. He loved his job because he loved building things and taking things apart. Jermy would often meet up with his friends in their garages to work on projects. One day, after a hard days work, jermy went over to his friends house. Micheal, who was jermys friend, was working on a project fo the school play. Jermy walked into the garage to find micheal smoking something. Jermy asked micheal "what do you have their?" micheal responded, " I found this joint while at the school, I'm surprised kids start off so early." Jermy thought, who in their right mind would take a random joint from a school? who knew what was in it? Micheal then offered one to jermy. Jermy didn't want to say no, so he took it and smoked it. Jermy had never felt better in his life. He was soon spending hundreds of dollars each month to get stronger and stronger cannabis. He cam into work one day while high, and was promptly fired, as he nearly killed someone while using a forklift. Jermy was down on his luck and had to move in with his parents. Jermy was saving to go to colledge, but all his money went into his smoking habits. His parents kicked him out of their house. the city was a big place, and jermy soon found himself in parts of the city he had never been too. Jermy found new friends, and had fun stealing money to get his next high. It was fun until it wasn't. Soon, jermy was a rested by the cops and sent to rehab. Jermy now had a terrible cough, and he was very weak. Jermy was sent out a few months, and he went back into contruction. He was never the same, and always had the urge to smoke again. He tried his hardest to say no to people who tryed to offer him drugs, but soon he fell back into another addiction. Jermy was invited to the pub, and all his friends were drinking. Jermy hadn't had a drink in months, so he took a shot. Then another, then another, then another, until he passed out.

"And the Badgers score! Oh- wait, it looks like a teammate has slipped! Number 42, are you alright? Someone get a gurney, she's injured! Delilah! Delilah!!"

Delilah opens her eyes to realize she's the last one in her biology teachers lecture hall. "Delilah, are you okay?" her professor inquires. Delilah, still groggy, replies "yes, yes, I'm fine...". The professor sits down in the empty seat next to her; "I've noticed you've been struggling to complete assignments in my class, I've looked at your grades and they're slipping. Is something going on that you'd like to talk about?" Delilah reflects for a moment, wondering if this could be the moment she finally asks for the help she knows she needs. "No, I'm okay, just adjusting to the new school year", her fear overtook her again. She packs up her scattered books and walks out of the hall. The professor remains suspicious.

As Delilah walked across campus, she got a phone call. It was her boyfriend Matt. She hesitated for a second then pressed decline. She couldn't handle talking to him right now. She got back to her dorm room and slumped onto her bed. Her eyes immediately move to see the bottle of Oxycontin standing on the counter. Her roommate wouldn't be back for another hour. She thought to herself... "she won't know if I take some now, right? The high will pass before she gets back." She walks to the counter and opens the cap. A small part of her screams and begs to her not to take it. The bigger and more powerful part of her overtakes her conscience and she reaches into the bottle and grabs two pills.

An hour later, Delilah wakes up to her roommate vigorously shaking her shoulder, praying that today wasn't the day. She rubs her eyes and pushes her roommate away to reach for the trash can. She vomits into the trash can, but also all over her clothes and bed. Delilah is lucky that her roommate, Jasmine, was blessed with incredible patience. Jasmine helps Delilah out of bed and gets her ready for a shower. Delilah heads to the communal showers in their dorm as Jasmine rips the sheets off the vomit covered bed. Someone knocks at the door while Delilah is gone and Jasmine answers it. It was Matt, Delilah's boyfriend, there for a surprise visit! He immediately smells the vomit and Jasmine lies, saying that Delilah caught a stomach bug. She remembered Delilah telling her that Matt didn't know about her addiction despite being with her for two years. They had first started dating a few months before she left for college and then once she was in New York it was easy to hide from him. She just doesn't want this to affect him as well.

After about 15 minutes, Delilah arrives back in the room, clean but still feeling miserable. Apparently the shower doesn't clean addiction away. She sees Matt and he sees her and they make eye contact. Delilah fears that she might be hallucinating and tries to remember reading the side effects on the oxycontin bottle. Matt smiles and hugs her and Delilah desperately looks at Jasmine for help. Jasmine frowns and shrugs.

After catching up, Delilah tries to discern whether it would be a good time to tell the truth. She imagines what Jasmine would say, "maybe him coming here is a sign that you need to come clean." Jasmine would like to not be the only one who has to deal with Delilah's addiction, but she also genuinely wants her to get help. Delilah's two consciences start to fight once again. "He needs to know Delilah. This could be your way out!" rebutted with "he doesn't need to know! Delilah is an independent woman who doesn't need to rely on Matt. Besides, this would just be a greater burden to him. No point of doing that." Delilah decides to take control for once in her life. "Matt... I need to tell you something, and I don't know how you're going to react."

Caroline was a 18 year old student who got stuck in a dark place. She was a senior in high school and everyone loved her. She was a caring and loving person, and whenever you would look at her, her smile would light up the room. She had everything going for her in high school. She had many friends who adored her and had amazing grades. She played for the school's soccer team, and was in many clubs. She was nice to everyone and was willing to help you if you needed it. Even the teachers admired her, she was a role model student. One day she was preparing for her soccer tournament, her and her teammates made it to the finals and were getting ready to go onto the field. Caroline was about to shoot until someone from the other team tripped her and she fell face flat on the grass. Next thing she knows, she's on the ground and she can’t feel her leg. She looks over and sees that her leg is bent and the bones popping out. Her parents and the emergency medical team were running to the field. Caroline was crying while the other players stood from a far watching her laying on the green grass, helpless. She eventually becomes unconscious and she then later wakes up in a hospital bed with her parents by her side. She’s so confused about what happened and goes to look down at her leg again. Her leg seems to be in a baby blue cast and out of nowhere there is a knock at the door. The doctor comes in and explains to them what happened. He then later prescribes Caroline, codeine, which will help her with the pain in her leg. The doctor suggested that Caroline should take one tablet every other day. Caroline and her parents drive to the pharmacy and pick up her medication and then drive back home. Caroline took her first pill and started to feel a little queasy, but the weird thing is she felt calm and had a sense of pleasure. The next day before Caroline went to bed, she was feeling bored. The side effects of the drug were wearing off and she liked the feeling, so she decided to take another pill to keep the feeling going. The next day, she went to school and the drug from the other night hasn’t worn off yet. Everyone noticed something was off she wasn’t her cheery self she was more gloomy and she wasn’t as focused in school as she normally would be. The feeling of pleasure was going away again so Caroline asked to go to the bathroom. Once she got there she decided to take 3 pills at the same time. She thought that feeling would last longer since there were 3. When she went back to class, she collapsed on the floor. She woke up again in another hospital bed with her parents by her side, looking sad and disappointed. She was told that she fell unconscious because of the amount of pills she took at the same time. She had a talk with her parents and they decided that Caroline should go to rehab. She agreed and a couple months later, she‘s back to her normal self again. Of course she had a dark patch, but she pulled through and is living her best life.

Jerry's Alcohol Addiction - Nick Custer

This is Jerry, a 24 year-old male who can’t quite seem to stop drinking. Jerry’s been drinking since the age of 14, and ten years later he is still addicted. When he was 14, he had an abusive mother, and they always got into fights. His father was never home, always out with his friends. He was neglected… After Jerry and his mother stopped arguing, she would always grab a beer out of the fridge and drink the rest of the night. When Jerry couldn’t handle it anymore, he resulted in drinking to stop him from crying night and day.

He started drinking occasionally, about once a week. After about a month, Jerry’s school found out and notified his parents. When his parents got the phone call, they hit Jerry repeatedly and he found bruises all over his body: some red, some black and blue. Four years later, Jerry had gone all the way up to his final year of high school, but then dropped out when he couldn’t handle the pressure anymore.

By that time, his father was still gone and his mother passed away from a heart attack. Then, he started drinking almost every day. Some nights Jerry would pass out on the couch, others he would fall and hurt himself. Jerry could barely live considering he spent most of the money he made from Burger King on alcohol. Some nights Jerry would even go on a ride, while drunk… He would do that only occasionally, and usually only go out for 10 minutes, but clearly ten minutes was all he needed… When he was going out to the store when he ran out of alcohol, he hit a driver and paralyzed him for life. Jerry got arrested on the spot.

He was sentenced to 6 years in prison. Jerry was so lonely and so drunk, all he thought of was suicide. This was rock bottom for him. Jerry would bang his head against the cold steel of the bars each day in that prison. Six years later, Jerry has lessened his drinking, especially because he couldn’t for the past six years. He went out and found some friends, usually only drinking about once a month now. Now that his life is much better, he sits on the couch and watches TV, holding a coke in his hand. Boom, boom, he hears from the door. “Who is it,” Jerry asks. “Your father”.

At the time I lived with my mom and couldn't get a job because I was unstable and had no motivation to do anything. I was addicted to 🤬 for about 2 years. I dropped out of highschool because of it and im still getting effected by it. Than one day I just remember doing more than I would normally and next thing I know i was in a hospital bed. My mom found me passed out next to where I was living because I overdosed. She called an ambulance and they took me to the hospital after that I went to rehab and I have been sober for almost a year now.

Adam Oxycontin addict

Adam is a forty two year old man who once was a kind, and funny person. He lives with his wife and two children, 13 year old son and 17 year old daughter. After he graduated high school with almost perfect grades, he went to college to study to become a doctor. He fulfilled his dreams and became a pediatrician, and worked with children at Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital in New York City. His life seemed to be going pretty well until he had to get a surgery, where he was prescribed oxycontin for the pain. When he got home from the hospital, he took one of these pills, and felt a way he had never felt before, this is where the problems began. Fast forward two years, and he is hooked on oxycontin, and cannot live without it. He got fired from his job at the hospital because he came to work always disoriented, and never in the state to work with children. His life is completely different than it was not too long ago. He starts off his day most mornings, going to the city and desperately searching for a source of oxycontin, since he could never seem to find a “reliable” drug dealer. Since he has made no effort to get even a low-paying job, he takes money from his wife, and his children’s saving account for college. This has caused many problems, and heated arguments every evening at the dinner table, where there is screaming. Another cause for these arguments is that Adam returns home everyday, high off of the pills, constantly itching, hallucinating, and vomiting. This shocks his wife and children, considering he had nearly died from an overdose already, and he had lost his mother to heroin abuse. Sometimes they think that this may be his way to cope with that. Little did Adam know, that his addiction is causing many family problems. His wife is now depressed, and she is struggling with paying the bills every month. To add on to this, the kids may not be able to afford to go to college, since Adam is continuously stealing money. It was getting out of control, and the family could not handle this, so they sent him to rehab. It was a difficult time for him, considering he was having withdrawals from the drug. But all in the end, it was worth it, Adam is now 2 years sober, his family is getting back on their feet, and he even managed to get a good paying job again.

Ben is a 35 year old man from Green Bay, Wisconsin. Ben has a doctorate in aerospace engineering and now works at NASA and lives in Florida. He´s been working at NASA since he was 28, and because he is now so far away from his family, he developed a anxiety disorder. He rarely has time to visit his family at all because of how far away from home he is and how secretive his work is. His work is top secret because America and Russia are in another space race, but instead of venturing to the moon, its to set up a working colony on mars. It has been called the Space Race Part Two. Part of Ben´s job is to design and develop new technologies that function on in the martian environment. Him and others need to figure out how to design a working shelter with a supply of oxygen, as well as plants and ways to farm on mars in order to feed the Astronauts. A lot of pressure and stress is put on Ben and his peers, which is added on top of Ben´s diagnosed anxiety. But, because of all of these new factors from his job, Ben´s anxiety has worsened. Once he had enough free time off work, he went to the closest doctors office and made an appointment. The doctors evaluated Ben and discovered he has severe anxiety, and gave him a prescription to treat it. Once it was ready, Ben went to the closet pharmacy to pick it up. The drug he was prescribed was Xanax. Ben has never taken a prescription medicine like this before. Although it is addictive, if taken in the prescribed amounts, it will effectively treat anxiety disorders. He took the Xanax pills orally like intended for the first few weeks. The drug made him feel better and allowed him to have a couple breakthroughs in his research at NASA. He figured out a method to have astronauts leave and enter the shelter on mars without having any of the much needed oxygen escape. Another being how to protects the astronauts from the suns radiation since Mars doesn't have an ozone layer or as dense of an atmosphere as Earth. However over time, the Xanax didn't seem to be working anymore. He built up a tolerance without knowing it. Instead of consulting a doctor on what to do or how to have the Xanax work again, he tried to take it in larger quantities. This seemed to do the trick and he did it for awhile. Once he ran out of pills and needed more, he realized he needed them badly or he would be having side effects from withdraw. He developed an addiction. He spent a large portion on his pay check on Xanax and getting more from pharmacies. Over the course of a year he would spend about $30,000 dollars just on Xanax. Roughly a third of his yearly salary. The drug made him show up later to work, not be as present when discussing or coming up with designs and prototypes, and some days he would call in sick from work because of the physical affects of the drug he experienced. He would occasionally have hallucinations, always be tired and drowsy, struggled sleeping, and had lots of trouble concentrating. On top of this he began to experience more sadness and feelings of hopelessness. Ben also had an underlying case of depression, which only got worse because of the Xanax. At first he was taking three doses a day as prescribed, but now he saw himself topping six or seven doses. Ben has lost all contact with his family and pushed them out of his life.Ben has never taken a prescription medicine like this before. He got fired from NASA and his new income came from selling some of his Xanax for a higher cost than what it was worth in order to obtain more. He became a drug dealer and got in legal trouble and served jail time. While in jail, he was able to get help from a part of the prison that dealt with drug abuse cases and they tried to treat Ben. The treatment proved to be successful but unfortunately, the Xanax caused Ben's brain to forget how to operate and violent mood swings. After a couple years Ben died as a result of his Xanax abuse at 43.

Owen Matthews

Owen Matthews was a thirty-eight-year-old male and was happily married to his wife Victoria. He the father of three children, Julianna, Chris, and Spencer. His life was great. He was a Harvard Law graduate and was pursuing his dream of becoming the greatest lawyer in New York City. Owen was very wealthy. He was a Medical Lawyer and had a career-changing case. If he won, he would get a huge promotion. He found out his client was guilty which made his job ten times harder. He was very stressed out one night so he went to the bar. Ever since that one night, he went to the same bar every day after work and got drunk, sometimes even in the day. Owen began to behave suspiciously. He would always sneak out, yell at his wife, and would constantly be exhausted. Victoria became worried about Owen. She knew he was lying to her, so one night she waited up for him. When Owen arrived at their home, Victoria confronted him about how he was never home and about his new behaviors. Little did they both know, their lives would never be the same. Owen was furious about all of the accusations she made. Owen got angry and started to verbally abuse her. Once Victoria started crying, the kids woke up and watched the fight. Then Owen hit her and went to bed. The next morning, he woke up and Victoria and the kids were gone. Owen went to the kitchen and that’s when he found his wife’s wedding ring and a note on the counter. Owen had nobody he cared about in his life left. His mother had died when he was young, and his father was in a nursing home suffering from dementia. Owen did not show up for work the next day. He went to the bar and got wasted. When he finally did go to work, it was to quit. Owen was completely ruining his life. He mentally felt like he had nothing left to live for, but alcohol is what set him free. He was then arrested for starting a bar fight. The police order him to see a therapist where he found out he was suffering from depression. He was issued medication, but never took it. Four years later he was living in his car, the only thing he owned. His wife won the divorce case two years prior to this time and got full custody of his children. He was running low on money, so he sold his home. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with stage four liver cancer. Owen had no money, no job, no family, and now was slowly dying. Any money he could make was spent on Liquor. He eventually sold his car and was homeless. One morning he woke up in the hospital because some random man found him unconscious in the park. Owen realized that he had to try and get better. The man who saved him was named Jason, and he agreed to help him. Owen began chemotherapy and for awhile he was getting better. Jason became a close friend to Owen and they built a nice relationship. Jason helped him find a new place to live for when he could leave the hospital. Owen was still suffering from cancer but sobered up. After years of not seeing them, Owen was able to see his children one more time. When the time came for them to visit, only Julianna and Spencer were there. On that day he had found out that Chris had died due to a car accident. This set Owen over the edge. The next day he was let out of the hospital and relapsed. Owen hadn’t felt emotional pain like this since his mother had died. He had completely given up on life. Owen went home and went to his kitchen to grab a knife, and three days later Jason found him dead in his apartment.

Bobby Chewy was a teacher at Phoenix High School. He was driving home one day when a drunk driver smashed into his and he was put in the ICU. while in the ICU he was prescribed Oxycontin for a week after he was let out of the hospital. While on the painkillers he took one more than he was supposed one day and was in pain so much the next day he called the doctor saying he lost 5 and that he needed them. The doctor trusting Bobby gave him the five and Bobby was officially hooked.

It was a slippery slope from there. He spent an enormous amount of cash to get the drugs illegally after his doctor stopped giving him the prescription. His wife tried but eventually left him and took the children. He went to great lengths to get his oxy’s and even sold his left pinky toe. However, there was a beacon of hope; his mom. Momma Chewy was able to rehabilitate him. And he now work a mailman trying to get his teaching license back. The moral of the story is to never turn your back on family.

Katherine Pearson

Katherine Pearson is a 24 year old female finishing up her degree in Engineering with three job offers behind her. Katherine grew up in a stable community and family of four. Growing up Katherine saw the lives of her parents and admired them because even though they had disagreements, they never gave up on eachother. John and Mary Pearson were Katherine’s definition of true love and the reason she always believed in it. Some would say Katherine is living the dream life, she is becoming successful, she has a loving and supporting husband, Vitaly, and she’s happy with her true love and true passion. Katherine loved her perfect life. But Katherine hasn’t been feeling well recently, every morning she gets nauseous and starts vomiting during her first two classes. Concerned, Katherine went to the doctor just to find out she was pregnant. Hearing this news Katherine bursts up with joy! The last thing she wanted for her life to be perfect has become a reality! “I’m gonna be a MOM!” Katherine jumps into her car to rush over to the house and tell Vitaly the wonderful news. Katherine gets to the house and runs to Vitaly and holds up a onesie that says “Mommy’s my favorite but daddy is cool too.” Looking at the expression on Vitaly’s face, it was not the one Katherine was expecting. “We’re pregnant.” Vitaly was tired of it. Four years of marriage Vitaly never voiced his opinion, but he finally decided to. “I never wanted kids and I’m tired enough supporting your dreams.” Soon enough Katherine’s “true love” was gone and her idea of her perfect life was broken without him. Katherine began questioning life, “Why haven’t I noticed the suitcases before?”

“Has my whole life been a lie?”

	“Are my parents even happy?”

Katherine was devastated. Now a single mom, Katherine tried to continue life by getting a small part time job at a bar to support her until she finishes her education. Everynight Katherine felt so much pain it was unbearable. Surrounded by all this alcohol every night she sees strangers bury their pain, and they seem better. Little by little she experimented, she made one drink for a customer, then one for herself. Katherine felt a high that pushed back the pain, and she loved that high. Little did she know she couldn’t stop. Every night she would add more and more alcohol. Who would’ve thought it started from 2 shots of vodka, for a short and skinny 24 year old. Katherine slowly started flunking her final classes, and slowly losing her job offers. In the blink of an eye, eight months flew by, and Katherine gave birth to John Jr. Katerine couldn’t wait to take Johnny Jr. home until the doctors informed her that they are going to have to stay longer because her child has FASDs (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders). Knowing that her baby would suffer their whole life with health issues, and have to grow up without a father because of her, Katherine was determined to stop drinking and get her life on track. Katherine decided to sober up and get a real job because she was fired from the bar for stealing alcohol, but before that Katherine decided to check herself into a Rehabilitation facility. Even though it was hard to leave her newborn for 90 days, she knew it was the best decision. Ten years later… Katherine is ten years strong and sober with a new husband and 3 kids. Katherine is genuinely happy.
