As sympathy we designate the feeling by which we naturally and spontaneously profess an effective inclination towards another person, and which is generally reciprocal.

Sympathy involves understanding from your own perspective. Empathy involves putting yourself in the other person's shoes and understanding WHY they may have these particular feelings. In becoming aware of the root cause of why a person feels the way they do, we can better understand and provide healthier options.

It is about looking for the positive and the feeling of the situation

Although both are good qualities in our dealings with others, we should not confuse them
