Everyone in the world is familiar with William Shakespeare and his amazing and wonderful works even though his sonnets and plays are over 400 years old.

Many young people (high-schoolers) believe that learning about Shakespeare is boring, a waste of time and unnecessary because it won't help them find jobs or benefit them in the long-run. I agree that it is tough trying to analyse, read and understand Shakespeare's work, especially words such as doth, hath, thee, thou, etc.

However, it is proven that Shakespeare's work is timeless and relatable as well as provides insight on various topics such as racism, witchcraft, jealousy, politics, corruption, gender roles and discrimination. His work has also contributed to pop culture and films such as the Lion King, Harry Potter, Game of thrones and 10 things I hate about you are based off of Shakespeare's creations.

I believe it is important for each generation to learn about William Shakespeare because he is the main contributor to English literature. Thus, as teachers we have to make literature lessons fun and easy to understand.

I feel that it is a Must that William Shakespeare's work is included in the English curriculum. YES, It is a bit challenging to grasp immediately when reading he's sonnets as well as novels, but once you've analysed it and you understand what he has written it becomes so much easier

As a future English teacher, I would encourage people of all ages to experience and appreciate the work of Shakespear. Not all of us enjoy reading or doing poetry yet you will discover that the work of Shakespear goes deeper and realates to stuff we still experience in our daily lives today. Perhaps you will find useful advice or encouragment and also learn to appreciate the minds and hearts of popular indivdiuals who lived long ago like Shakespear. Its only a matter of how you choose to perceive the writing piece whether it be a poem or novel. Try to find ways to make it interesting for yourself to truly understand what he has written. Whether we want to know it or not....Shakespears work will probably always be part of the English curriculum so one can get use to the idea of embracing it.

HyHI ROBYN
in my personal opinion I believe that
Shakespeare shouldn't be taught in South African schools. Yes, he is one of the greats but in trying to decolonize our education system we need to build a curriculum that highlights all the great writers and poets of Africa, which children can relate too. This language is hard to understand and English Home language is considered as one of the most difficult subjects to pass along with Mathematics all due to learners not being able to comprehend Shakespeare h
