The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is about a young girl growing up in Nazi Germany. It is a fantastic book that made me laugh and cry at the turn of every page.

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/19063.The_Book_Thief

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline is a hyper-realistic dystopian novel based around Wade Watts, an eight-teen year old video game player who's goal it is to find a coveted, "Easter Egg" hidden within OASIS, his video game plane. Ready Player One, was hard to get into; seemed too whimsy and go-lucky, then things changed, really pulled me in and became one of my Top 10 books; Ernest has a great way of consistently twisting the plot-line, great way to entice the readers.

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9969571-ready-player-one

A book that takes place in a future dystopia where books are illegal and the job of a firefighter is actually starting fires. It's an astounding read following the main protagonist Guy Montag, and the story goes in a direction you wouldn't have expected.
