1. Davy Crockett helped Texas win independence from Mexico
   
2. In 1803 there was conflict over Texas & US stopped claiming it in 1814 (Adam-Onis Treaty)
   
3. Most residents in old Texas were Tejanos. Comanches, Apaches, & Kiowas lived in Texas also
   
4. Empresarios were people who obtained grants from the government & recruited settlers
   
5. Moses Austin was the 1st person to receive a land grant but died soon after
   
6. Stephen F. Austin took over his father's land grant & created a colony
7. The first three hundred american families recruited by Austin were called the "old three hundred"
8. In 1830 there more Americans in Texas than Mexicans; the government thought American influence was bad so Mexico issued a decree to stop immigration & put tax on US goods
9. In 1833 Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna became president of Mexico then later on became a dictator
   
10. In 1835 Texans battle in the town of Gonzales
    
11. In 1836 the Battle of Alamo began
    
12. William B. Travis was a defender & general in the war
13. On March 6, 1836 US settlers & Tejanos made Texas' Declaration of Independence
14. Sam Houston was a commander in chief & fought in the Goliah massacre
15. On April 21 the Battle of San Jacinto began
16. On May 14 Santa Anna was captured & soon recognized Texas' independence
17. In September 1836 Sam Houston became president of Texas
18. John Tyler puts Texas as a state
19. On December 29 1845 Texas officially becomes a state
