Chapter 2, page 18, I chose this quote because it warns the reader that what they are about to read will be intense and horrifying. For me, after reading this specific quote it made me want to read more, but, I knew that there would be terrifying events happening. I think this quote impacts the story because it foreshadows the events that will happen in the book.

Chapter 3, page 26, I chose this quote because it shows the relationship that bad but now they can no longer have that relationship because Alfons best friend is Jewish. I think this impacts the storyline because it shows that at the time this was a big part of Alfons past but after the many events that happen it’s a fleeting memory.

Chapter 4, page 27, I chose this quote because it provides the exact date of Kristallnacht and the distraction that was made during this event. I think this quote impacts the story because it explains how the Germans didn’t care about the hard work that the Jewish people had put into their businesses. This was just the beginning.

I think this quote impacts the text because his uncle’s beliefs, even though they are very strong, does not have an impact on Alfons future decisions.

Epilogue, page 223, I chose this quote because Helen is faced with much criticism for talking with Alfons and “being to forgiving” This “sums up her opinion and is very inspirational. This impacts the text because even though the Holocaust was a terrible event that happened in our past, with remembrance and honoring the people who lost their lives the Holocaust is something that is capable in today’s world and should never be repeated.
