Fictional character who embodies self reliance.

Shrek embodies the idea of self reliance perfectly because he lives in a swamp in the middle of nowhere living off the land and his own desires. this is very similar to the story of Chris mccandless and how he lived off the land. Emerson also embodies this idea when he tells the reader to break away from what society says is normal and march to the beat of your own drum.

Person that was greatly misunderstood- Robert E. Lee

this might be controversial but hear me out. in the US civil war the Union had more soldiers, more resources, more railroads, and more territory. despite this Lee was able to sustain a 4 year long war with inferior everything. even though he is very much on the wrong side of history, which makes him very misunderstood, he was one of the greatest military minds of the time.

Song that was influenced by Emerson's essay- Fly Away by Lenny Kravitz

Fly Away embodies the ideas presented in Emerson's essay very well because the whole song consists of Kravitz talking about wanting to "fly away" and "get away". it can be safe to assume he wants to get away from society because when this song came out he was largely in the spotlight, which he obviously wanted to get away from. this is very much in line with what Emerson talks about in his essay about getting away from society.

How does Chris Mccandless embody the ideas in Emerson's essay?

In Emerson's essay excerpt we read the main idea present was leaving society and learning things for yourself by means or personal experience. Mccandless exhibits this perfectly because he gets a formal traditional education, but then decides it's not good enough and finds joy traveling around nature learning about things his way. he would sometimes escape society for months on end.

Quote from essay- "the power which resides within him is new through nature"

this is the visual interpretation of the quote given. this is because in novels and films large trees represent knowledge and power, so this tree in nature perfectly embodies the quote.
