After the encounters ended, the authorities were informed of the relationship. In the criminal case that followed Gagne made a deal that reduced her charge to a fifth-degree gross misdemeanor with a one-year sentence (which was suspended). Clarkson received $1 in damages from Gagne and $75,000 from the High School.

Boys in his position are not always seen as victims by society. Most people see male teenagers who have sex with attractive women in their twenties as lucky, despite it being illegal. These cases aren't generally seen as abuse, but rather a form of victimless misconduct. As a society we have to decide what the legal and social ramifications of such a case should be.
