A. What is the problem and what are the root causes of the problem?

There are many problems that people of the christian religion are facing in the middle east. One of the root causes of the larger problem is Christians are being forced to worship emperors instead of their chosen religion, but many Christians are refusing to worship the emperor and are therefore being punished. Many of the supreme religions in the middle east are preventing Christians from worshiping and celebrating their holidays with family. For example on and around Christmas families in east bank weren’t allowed to visit their family members in west bank. Also, many people weren’t allowed to return or visit Bethlehem or the church there. In order to visited you had to send in a application, but only 350 were approved all the other Christians never heard back.

B. How has the problem affected the community directly?

This problem has affected the community directly in multiple ways. First many churches have been bombed throughout the middle east. Causing Christians to be scared of going to church as well as the feeling of endangerment while at church. On December 11th 2016 Saint Peter's Church was bombed. This church bombing was on of the largest claiming 29 peoples lives. The military court discovered about 36 people involved in the Saint Peter's bombing. 17 people were sentenced to death and the other 19 were sentenced to a life in prison. Many of these people were also involved in the Saint Paul's bombing which also claimed a few lives. Pope Francis is visiting the middle east to support Christians whose churches got bombed. A positive way that the community has been affected by Christian discrimination is the fact that a new cathedral church was inaugurated on Christmas Eve. The church is one of the largest in the middle east.

C. Why should the rest of the world be concerned about this issue?

The rest of the world should be concerned with the issue of Christian discrimination in the Middle East. They should be concerned because the Middle East was the birthplace of Christianity and the Christians just want to live in peace in their country of choice. Also there is very little religious diversity in the Middle East, so if Christians are being forced to flee there country out of fear the already small amount of racial diversity will go down even more. Further more if we let Islamist extremists continue to discriminate and force Christians to leave they will begin to think that what they are doing is okay and that we don't care if they target minorities. Therefore if we do not get involved in this issue it will escalate and causing major problems for people of racial minorities in the Middle East countries.

D. What is currently being done to address this problem?

Right now there are many things being done to address the problem of Christian Discrimination in the Middle East. First the Pope is taking a trip to the Middle East to encourage Christians to stay strong and to continue to follow their religion. Also many more churches are being built in Egypt as well as in other countries. Finally, the US government recently created the Human Rights Project. The Human Rights Project is designed to help strengthen culture and human rights throughout our nation and the world.

Dear Diary,
As I walked to the Christmas gathering just down the block I heard 11 consecutive gun shots. As well as a handful of screams. After I heard the screams and the gun shots I turned to run back to my home. However as I turned I saw a large group of men dressed in all black slowly forming a circle surrounding me. There was no where for me to run or hide. Then one of the men came up from behind me he grabbed me and forced me into a empty van. As the van began to move forward steadily increasing in speed I managed to open the trunk door. As soon the door swung open I took a running jump out of the van, tucked and rolled. I rolled and rolled on the ground until I came to a stop and until the van was out of site. Once I was sure the van was gone I popped up and ran as fast as I could home. When I walked in the door I found my mother sobbing in the kitchen. Little did I know that I would soon find out that my father was one of the 11 Christians killed in the Christmas festival shooting.
