The first cartoon shows that the slaves are well treated and the old man is sitting down and the slaves are well dressed. They are smiling, laughing and dancing. They have colorful clothes on and seem like they are a big family. Compared in the second Cartoon it shows a family of wage slaves, the mother seems to be dying on the bed and there is a lot of pollution is seen through the open door and the father is very stressed.
The point of this is to show how slavery is good for the slaves and they are treated better than workers in the north

This video shows that Frederick Douglass's mother was beaten simply because she wasn't at the place her master told her to be. Her Master whipped her and stripped off her clothes effectively taking advantage of her. This shows how ironic the statement that the south makes that slaves are treated well. In the video Douglass is sleeping on hard wood floor and not on a bed. The mother is whipped harder every time she screams and the Master goes unpunished. This makes the statement hypocritical.

This political cartoon shows how the southerners view Lincoln's election and how the slaves will be now. In the south they believe now slaves will be smart and get rights from their masters. The black slave is depicted as not being able to speak English and they are now able to read the newspaper. Before The slaves could not read the newspaper as it was illegal. The South did not want the Slaves to be able to read and gain power. This is also racially offensive because this is not how a Black Person speaks.

"I have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the States where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to do so." This quote Shows that Lincoln does not and will not do anything about slaves. He does not care about the slaves and even though he could make laws to make slavery illegal he won't because he will also gain from slavery. He also doesn't want to make the south angry from taking away Slavery from them. He wants unity and the issue of slavery to begone. He does not want a civil war but at this point it will happen.

I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to do so." This quote shows that Lincoln is ensuring the south they have nothing to fear and that slavery will not be taken away from the southerners. To the South this is a victory that cannot be taken from them. In the Constitution there is no mention of slavery. The Fugitive slave law which makes anyone who helps slaves illegal is on the south's side. Lincoln wants to avoid the civil war so taking away slavery will be useless.

"Immediate danger will be brought to slavery, in all the Frontier States. When a party is enthroned at Washington... Whose creed is to repeal the Fugitive Slave Laws, the under-ground railroad, will be an over-ground railroad. The tenure of slave property will be felt be weakened; and the slave will be sent down to the Cotton States for sale, and the frontier States enter on policy of making themselves Free States" This shows how the south think that the republican party are abolitionist. The reason for that is cause the south doesn't want to lose slavery. This is why the south came up with this argument. The South doesn't want blacks to be free and wants to keep slavery and expand slavery
