The beaks grew in length because the ground finches that had small beaks died off. This is because they could not get the Tribulus seed and they could not eat the seed because of the hard shell. The other seed that the small ground finch ate died of because of the drought. This supports natural selection because only the birds with the longer beak survived and not the ones with the small beak.

Natural selection is caused when a charistic of a animal is making it capable to survive. For example the ground finch with the wider beak makes it easier to break open the Tribulus seed. So all the birds with the smaller beaks can't break open the Tribulus seed died off because the seed that they used to eat became very scarced.

The bird ate 2 kinds of seed on this island. They were the Portucale and the Tribulus. During the drought the Portulaca became very scarce with i's common found rate .385 every square mile. But the Tribulus was not scared commonly found every 4.929 evry square mile.

The seeds that the birds ate were very different. For example the Tribulus, avery hard seed, was only able to be opened by a ground finch with a long and wide beak. The Portucale was a soft seed and it was ate by a certain type of ground finch. The reason why the Portucale died off is because during the drought it was hard to reproduce. And the birds that needed this seed would eat the faster that they could reproduce.
