I learned about the history of the oyster industry in Rhode Island and the decline in oyster populations caused by the industry in the 1930s

The extent of aquaculture in Rhode Island - I didn’t appreciate how many sites there were just for oysters and how much is was contributing to the local economy. It was also interesting to see the disproportionate rise in aquaculture consumption for food relative to the rise in global population and realize how it could contribute to food security

Today I learned that Rhode Island has a lot of aquaculture farms (over 1,000!) which is crazy for a little state. I also learned how oysters are taking over aquaculture in the U.S.
