All School Library Journal reviews begin with the bibliographic information of the piece which was reviewed, in the heading (Authors name[Last,first]. Title (including subtitle, if applicable). Number of pages. Publisher. Year of publication. Price. ISBN Number). All bibliographic information contains the aforementioned information in the heading for easy accessibility. In the opening of all School Library Journal reviews, just below the header contains the recommended reading level, which allows teachers and librarians to quickly note which age group the material is best suited for.

According to School Library Journal, “A review must include a brief statement of the content or plot, a critical appraisal of the literary and/or artistic quality, and the clarity and organization of information” (SLJ.com, n.d.). Reviews are short and consist of about 200-250 words.
