Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential is organized as a memoir, interspersed with chapters that feel more like an op-ed article. Chapters about what makes a good employee, what and where to get when it comes to cooking gear, the importance of mis en place.

Bourdain portrays his ideas without frivolity. His dry sense of humour and wit, and his often times blunt writing style give Bourdain a singular voice.

His voice comes through most strongly in his writings in the margins. Additions that were in the edition I read added a lot to the book. Bourdain gave more context, or poked fun at his old self.

A lot of the  [?}

An approachable introduction into Taoism, easy to understand and implement into your own life, should you desire. This book is quite simple, in writing, in characters. Many of the concepts are exemplified by Winnie the Pooh, his childlike state of being allows him to move through the world with ease and with peace. Trying to become more childlike (i.e. curious, understanding, to be uninhibited by the business of the modern world), whilst maintaining maturity is what I am know striving for.

Human, deeply moving, beautiful.
     This novel taught me a lot about the longevity of love. It was beautiful, both in writing and in story. It portrays the sensitive subjects with grace and tact, showing nuance and different perspectives. I knew very little of Japanese culture when I began reading this book. Through it, as well as outside research informed by the book I have a better understanding of life in Japan and China during the 1940s. With all of that in mind, this book affected me very deeply. I read it immediately following The Unlikely Pilgrimage Of Harold Fry. Together these books changed something about the way I think for the better.
