Hi, I'm Kaija! I have an invisible disability. I am deathly allergic to tree nuts. This is really scary. Many people don't understand that even foods prepared in the same area as nuts can kill me, even if there are no nuts in the food. I can't eat food that my family hasn't prepared or that I haven't checked the label for Every. Single. Ingredient!! I don't know if the pan it was cooked in had previously had nuts in it. This means food at parties, restaurants, and even school can become a death sentence. This has caused me to be extremely anxious and scared of going places. I don't feel safe outside my own home. Enter Ginny the Gentle! She is a mini labradoodle goldendoodle mix; a double doodle! She is going to be my allergy alert dog. She will tell me whether I can or can't eat something. Join us on our journey to safety!

Picking out my pup!

For my service dog, I thought I would pick a smart breed of dog. Labradors, Golden Retrievers, and Poodles are all known for their ability to learn tricks, obey, and love. All of these breeds are very good service dogs. What's better than to have have all three breeds in one? When my Mom found these puppies for sale, we knew they would be perfect. Next, we contacted the lady, and met her the next day. The puppies were SOOOOOOOO CUTE!!! I had trouble deciding which one I would train. Many of the pups were crazy, and so playful! Then, there was Ginny. She was playing with the others, but she wasn't the crazy-bitey-pee-on-your-shoe-type. She was calm, and focused, in the very distracting atmosphere. I knew she would be the perfect service dog, so I got her! SHE IS SOOO FLUFFY, ADORABLE, BALL OF CUTENESS! I'm so excited to train her to be my service dog!

Ginny is doing so so so well! Yesterday, we went to a party, and I did a type of training called D.M.T. which stands for Distraction Mark Treat. Dmt is where I click whenever there is a distraction, before she reacts, then give her a treat! This marks her behavior as good. Soon, she'll be acting calm around all distractions! I also was teaching her how to leave my food alone. Whenever she looks away, and stops sniffing my food, I click and give her a treat! Near the end of the party, I was able to wave my hamburger in front of her face, with out her reacting! I can't believe she's doing this well, when it's only been 5 days!
(P.S. I'm sorry for not posting, I was to busy with Ginny. Here's a cute picture of her!
