A major theme I saw was Man vs Nature.

The significance of the "Snake-thing" is about the fear of the kids turning for the worst. Starting to develop their darker survival instincts.

Jack changes more into a beast. He starts keeping his priorities on hunting only. This tells us he is starting to overcome his human nature and embrace his animalistic nature.

A result of the signal fire incident Ralph began to feel that his position as leader is under jeopardy. He has began to become less easy-going and more strict. He starts to believe in controlling all the boys by beg a stricter leader. To express his new values he calls a meeting and addresses, "This meeting must not be fun, but business.". This shows that he is changing his ways to make sure that he is looked at as a serious leader.

2. 
Ralph makes 3 points during the meeting. First point being the bathroom, the boys to only do their business with the rocks near the tide. Next, they discuss that the fire on the mountain must be burning at all times while only being used to make food. Finally, he mentions the beastie and wants the boys to be able to discuss it. These points are important because they make the world that these boys live in a little more organized and which in return fixes their problems that they had.

When Piggy says "life is scientific", I think he meant that everything can be explained through science. The reason the statement even came up was in response of the fear of the beastie, he said that there would be know way a beast would be able to survive on an island like that. When he suggests that “there isn't no fear, either[…]unless we get frightened of people” I think what he means is that the beast may not exist but fear of the others does. Their fear may stem from being in an unknown place with others and they might be feeling a little cautious towards the others making them feel afraid.

The "beast from air" is a pilot and his parachute flapping in the wind. This is appropriate as to why they feel that everything that causes them fear they end up calling it a "beast". This relates to theme of them being in the unknown, where fear consumes them and they learn and adapt past these fears. It "beast" symbolizes their fear towards the fear in them and the "beast" within them.

From the following description we can learn that Sam and Eric's description of the "beast" tells us that as people we like to look at the worst in people without understanding it.  In the way they describe the pilot we see that they thought he was furry and had wings, but as the audience we figure out they thought this way because they have never seen a person in a parachute before so they overexaggerate the details in their fear.

Ralph overcomes Jack's challenge by having strict rules like about the fire. We see this in the following statements, "This is more than a hunter's job," "because you can't track the beast. And don't you want to be rescued? Don't you all want to be rescued? I said before, the fire is the main thing. Now the fire must be out.". The statement helps Ralph make his intentions clear about what is important for the group and himself, by making himself the alpha in the situation it puts him in a position over Jack.

The reason Ralph does not think about encountering with the "beast" is because Ralph does not even believe in the concept of there being a "beast". We also see that him accept this fact in the sentence following, "Ralph answered him politely, as if agreeing about the weather.

The embarrassing thing that Ralph is scared someone else might have overheard is "I'll be sucking my thumb next". In his head he thought if someone had overheard him he would been embarrassed while also others around him would think of him as a weak leader who sucks his thumb behind their backs. The fact that he talks to himself basically can mean either he is lonely and talks to himself to keep company or because he doesn't have enough self-confidence so he talks to himself to reinsure himself.

2.
After their encounter with the pig the boys pretend that Robert is the animal start poking their spears at him. While spearing the poor boy they chant, "Kill the pig! Cut his throat! Kill the pig! Bash him in!". During the ruckus even Ralph tries to get in the "fun". This is surprising because as the leader Ralph should not be putting up with behavior, yet he joins in on it making him closer and closer to a savage like the other boys. This could pushes him closer to a savage like the hunters and Jack.

I think Golding might have done this to show the will they have to have control of the boys. This shows that the boys who were willing to go up the mountains are willing to hunt the beast in the night. Ralph says that the hunter boys cannot do anything about the "beast", this in return makes Jack think that he is insulting him and his hunters cowards. In response he calls a meeting in which he calls Ralph a coward and is not fit to lead. He then asks the boys what he thinks of this and gets underwhelming support for his claim. Jack responds to his failure of his unsuccessful attempt at removing Ralph from leadership makes him cry. After the embarrassing events that occurred Jack decides to leave and go on his own many others follow him. For the other boys this makes them feel less protected and adds to their fear.

Piggy shows "intellectual daring" by providing the group with an idea for setting up a place for the signal fire. This is considered to be significant because out of all the boys the smartest of them would be the one with the idea. The idea is one that not any of the other boys figured out.

 I think the biguns might have left later to make sure that no one be able see them leave to not make it an awkward situation with the others. They also might have thought if they left during the meeting the others might have felt betrayed at their actions with giving it any thought. It is also possible they might have wanted to do it so Ralph would not have felt they left because of his leadership and only because they want more adventure in their lives.

4. 
Right after Jack and he finds out the others left as well, he talks to himself. We see him talk to himself and whether he is fit lead the boys and whether they really deserve him. It makes him feel hopeless. Jack tries to do this so that he can win back the people who do not trust or like him. This makes Jack look like a good leader who is willing to put things behind and do what is best for the boys. This could get the others who don't like him to change their allegiance and leave Ralph's side. This could maybe even change Ralph's feelings towards Jack

Jack asks the boys to dance and sing however they want. This gets people to feel nothing and do what they want without rules, as they keep dancing it turns into something more of Jack's plan as no one cares for Ralph's rules and they start to just obey no one which is what Jack wants.

The beasts that the boys kill is actually Simon, he knew the truth of what was really the "beast". He represents their only answer to their problems, by killing him it represents that they have gone too far down the rabbit hole and have ended their only chance at knowing. Ralph and Piggy react to Simon's death by thinking of it as an accident and denying anything to do with the event. Ralph reacts hysterical by laughing whenever someone mentions civilization on the island, mentioning he is still chief and that the boys will listen to him. Ralph laughs when he says, "I've got the conch" because he has lost all hope in himself. Piggy acts so strongly to this because he wants Ralph to act properly and not like a crazy person so that he can lead them to rescue. Ralph is too sad and has given up. Piggy has chosen to not give up and keep his emotions in so Ralph will can see him take action and he will change his attitude.

The narrator adds,  “Memory of the dance that none of them had attended shook all four boys convulsively". This means that even though they had witnessed the death of Simon they chose to not remember it. Even if they try to forget it they cannot, this is because it had shook them inside where they can't forget their role.

3.
Throughout the chapter we are able to see the characters affected by stress and fear. Some examples are of them the entire chapter being easily scared and Ralph forgetting things. In the chapter they are attacked by Jack, in this moment we are able to read that they are scared and and not able to do anything. I think Roger pushes the rock off the cliff because he wants to feel empowered knowing that everything damaged was due to him. Doing this also brings him pleasure because he is able to watch the destruction happen before him. This further proves that the boys have spent so much time on the island that they have started to turn into pure savages doing whatever gets their adrenaline rushing.

The destruction of the conch symbolizes the destruction of civilization on the island. It represents the transition from level-headed innocent boys into savages who will do anything for survival. Ralph hits the pigs head because he is under constant pressure and starts thinking crazy, he feels lost with his purpose. When he encounters the pig he feels as if the pig when looking at him is laughing at him, mocking him and Ralph being at his breaking point. Does the most inhumane thing and hits the pig's head until it breaks. This showing that even the most hopeful and positive people can break at there worst points.

2.
Samneric do not join Jack's tribe because they wanted to, they were forced to. Without any choice they joined Jack's tribe, later they would again make a choice between giving up Ralph and living or dying trying to protect him. Samneric give Ralph up and are interrogated/tortured by Roger whether the information given was true or not. This showing that even though they don't want to give up Ralph's location it does not matter because either way they're going to get hurt.

When Ralph decides to hide, he first hides in a thicket. Next, he hides in a bush under a tree. The hiding symbolizes that he is alone, surviving from evil all around him, not knowing when he is going to be safe.
