In his position at the university, he is responsible for the development and leadership of the Stanford Arrhythmia Center, a facility that draws on innovative bioengineering techniques to address complex clinical issues related to heart rhythm and related conditions including heart failure, sleep disturbed breathing. His group focuses on signal processing, computational models, and machine learning including neural network analyses. Prior to assuming his position at Stanford, Dr. Sanjiv Narayan was professor of medicine at prestigious institutions including the University of California, San Diego and University of California, Los Angeles. Between 2001 and 2014, Dr. Narayan worked as director of electrophysiology at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in San Diego, during which time he treated patients living with both life-threatening and non-urgent heart rhythm disorders. He has extensive experience as a teacher of medical students and residents, as well as fellows and senior physicians. Dr. Narayan received his medical degree from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom.
