You put your feet there. There are different types of decks such as concave and penny boards. Penny boards are flat and small, and are meant just for riding. They are harder to stop. Concave boards are bent, which allow you to do tricks because you can turn easily and have more control.

Barrings are the piece that help the wheels stay in place (in the trucks). If you roll your board and hear a scratching or rattling sound, you need to replace your barrings because they might be rusty. It is important to check your barrings regularly since it keeps your wheels in place and can affect your speed and balance. If the barrings or wheels are rusted, you will not be able to ride as quickly or smoothly.

Grip tape helps your feet stay in place on the deck. It has a texture similar to sandpaper so that you do not slide. It sticks to the board like a sticker. Grip tape typically has to be replaced 3-4 times per year, but can depend on how much you use your board.
