I believe this still happens because in the internet students will forget everything they learnt in class and focus on the trend, what their friends are doing or what their favorite celebrity asked them to do, so they look cool and so they fit in.

1) They might be jealous on the victim

2) They might want a revenge on the victim

3) They want to fit in wit the people

4) They want to be equal so if they are unhappy, they want others to be unhappy also 

5) They do it because it makes the feel funny and happy.

6) For the bullies the word "Cyber-bullying" might mean a fun job to them. They are not sure what they are doing. If they don't know the real meaning of a word then the word doesn't have any value.  

7) Makes them powerful and people follow his orders. People will take him as king.

8)They are doing this because they cannot express their feelings and emotions the right way.
