The film Inequality for all discuss the United States economic scale. Around the late 1970 economic inequality became a major issue. This film basically gives a realization on the factors of the economic inequality that have affected the middle class and poor. I learned that United States has the most unequal distribution of income and wealth and that 70% of the US economy is dependent on consumer spending. The state of income and wealth inequality in the US is 400 people more wealth than half the population. This relates to bourgeois and proletariat. The films shows whats happening to both sides the working class and the middle class. What surprised is that the middle class is actually struggling when middle class should be living comfortably and not have to struggle week by week.

This film, called Inequality for All, talks about a very serious issue that has been happening for years now. This issue is that of the wage gap, the difference in income between the richest of the rich, the poorest of the poor, and everyone in between. This film focuses on the idea of the American Dream and how the wealth inequality has affected American’s ability to achieve this dream. Something that really shocked me is that the top 1% which is not that many people, make up 20% of all income. This means that even though this top 1% has enough money to keep millions of people alive, they are basically hoarding all of this money. I think this is important to note when moving forward in this class because it gives us a real view of what all the statistics mean, and the people it really affects. I learned that despite hard work, work ethic, and potential, people can’t really make it to the top unless they are already really close to the top to begin with. The state of income and wealth inequality in the USA shown in the film is that the income gap is larger than ever before and doesn’t seem likely to get smaller any time soon.

This documentary Inequality for All talks about a great issues facing us today, the widening gap of inequality, why is it still happening and what can we do to reverse it. One of the facts that shocked me was that the money hoarded by the top 1% is not invested to great real economic output, it does nothing for job creation or produce real goods and services which does nothing in providing for the classes that fall below the top 1% which then they complain why the economy is so bad or why we have so many people homeless or on the verge of an economic crisis. When the middle and lower classes start feeling the crisis, they spend less, they cut back on buying things, which leads to factories selling less which leads to scaling down of production, which leads to lay offs, which leads to more stress in the economy. Another interesting fact which was more shocking was 400 of the most richest people in the America have more wealth than half of our country. The state and income and wealth inequality of the USA is bigger gap than ever before effecting us more now than ever before. I agree with at the end of the documentary with Professor Reich, in which he stresses in believing that the solution to our problem is our youth, those who graduate from higher education today. It is in their hands and responsibility that this problem will lied to solving this great problem of inequality being tore apart due to divisiveness and big corporations.

The inequality for all is a documentary by Robert Reich who's just looking for information in response of ways to make the economy work for everyone. While a typical male worker get even less money, the people at the top makes even more. four hundred people have more wealth than the typical minimum wage worker. After 1928, the economy went downhill just like it did in 2008. The wealthy turn to housing, gold to make even more money. The middle class makes the economy strong. The middle class worker, especially the single mothers have it rough as well. The middle class live comfortable, they're closer to live the "American Dream", but are still unable to spend a lot of money. This documentary is very similar to the movie "Two nights, one day" and many activities and homework we did this week. What shocked me was that that the average hourly pay was increased but dropped down in the late 1970's. I learned that employers did try to prevent union to be formed, and also to fight unions that were already there, because they wanted to maintain their competiveness. I believe that middle class have to fight back against the wealthy people. Sadly the middle class may lose. The state of income in wealth in inequality in the U.S probably going to stay the same, the rich will get richer from the middle class and working class.

Inequality for all is a documentary by professor Robert Reich. Mr. Reich was the secretary of Labor during President's Clinton first term. He also wrote many books, and he was an advocate for destroying inequality.
In this documentary, he explained different impacts that inequality have on people health and income. In America, 400 people have a good health. That means more than half of the population cannot afford health insurance or pay their health bills. Even though, the middle class family help the economy to grow and make it stable. They are struggling to live because their salary is not enough. They can just pay their house bills, car bills and provide food to their family. They do not have enough or extra money on their bank account. Sometimes, they can only have 30 dollars just on their checking account, and most of them do not have a saving account. People who are lawyers, doctors and entrepreneurs are not considered to be middle class because they make sufficient money to take all their bills, and they have tone of extra money on their bank account. Those people, they choose to spend less money on clothes or other things. They are not really helping the middle class people because they do not contribute a lot to the economy. They prefer to save more than spending money.

Give an example of how masculinity is socially constructed in our society.

Masculinity is socially constructed because society tells us what is considered to be masculine. For example, society tells us that in order to be considered masculine, you must be a strong man who does not cry. Young boys then learn the appropriate reactions and actions to things in order to be identified as masculine, as “all boys should be.”

2. Describe a way men “do” or perform masculinity.
Men perform masculinity when they act like they are very tough, even when they get hurt. They put on an act to pretend like the pain isn’t real.

3. What is the impact of masculinity on the relationship between men and women?
The impact of masculinity on the relationship between men and women is toxic because it tells men that they can only express anger and aggression rather than sympathy when upset. Men are unable to properly express their emotions which translates to hostility between men and women. Masculinity also dictates that men should be the powerful ones in their relationship, thus putting women below men.

4.What the relationship:
a) between sexism, homophobia, and masculinity?
Masculinity discriminates against women and has a gender bias towards men being the better of the sexes which is sexism. Also, masculinity says that any man acting feminine is gay and that further perpetuates homophobia.

b)between violence and masculinity?
Men have been taught to not back down from battles. If there is something wrong then you do not fix it by talking, but rather by fighting and violence. Aggression is not only allowed but stimulated by masculinity.

5. What role does the media take in socializing masculinity?
The media socializes us into the roles of men being masculine. Movies are a prime example of how the main roles are typically these rugged men who are void of emotion. Little boys then identify with these men and start simulating the same roles.

6. Describe a solution to one of the problems presented in the film.
There is a huge wage gap from the poor and the rich. There is no one really looking out for the American worker and there is not equal opportunity. One solution to this problem of inequality would be for the government to regulate the amount of money CEOs can make. Instead of paying them millions of dollars and then the lower employees a barely livable wage, they should try passing on some of that money to the lower level employees.

1) Give an example of how masculinity is socially constructed in our society.

Masculinity is socially constructed because even though men are not born strong, emotionless, and aggressive, somewhere along the way most men begin to see that those attributes are what makes a man manly in this society, so they start adapting to these gender roles.

2) Describe a way men “do” or perform masculinity.

A way men “do” masculinity is by playing aggressive sports such as football or rugby instead of doing less masculine sports such as ballet, gymnastics, or cheerleading, even though these take as much time, dedication, strength, and skill.

3) What is the impact of masculinity on the relationship between men and women?

As shown in the film, when men put on this “mask” of masculinity, they have to act in a way that is usually distant and unhealthy towards women. This can start as soon as elementary school when boys say that girls have cooties, but can go as far as men using women for sex because that’s what they think they’re supposed to do.

4) Whats the relationship:

a) between sexism, homophobia, and masculinity?
Masculinity is shown by being “manly”, being aggressive, separating themselves from women or anything that’s girly, being insensitive to themselves or other men. Masculinity makes men believe that women are less than simply because they aren’t “capable” of being masculine in the way they are expected to be, and it makes them believe that having close connections with other men, including emotional/sexual relationships, takes away from their masculinity and therefore should be avoided in order to fit into society as a man.

b) between violence and masculinity?

Aggressiveness and anger are traits that men are supposed to have if they want to be masculine, these traits are very much related to violence because men want to fit into this masculine role and want to prove it as much as they can which often leads to violence.

5) What role does the media take in socializing masculinity?
The media plays a large role in socializing masculinity because it’s one of the primary sources boys look up to to see what he’s supposed to be acting like on a larger platform.

6) Describe a solution to one of the problems presented in the film.
One of the problems presented on the film was the way boys feel as if its weak if they have affection for other boys and want to build relationships with their friends that are based on supporting each other and not just doing manly things together. A solution to this would be to show more of this affection as support within friends in movies, tv shows, and advertisements, because these are the sources that most people have access to.

1. Masculinity is socially constructed in our society because of the way it is portrayed by the media and our peers. Men are supposed to be seen as strong individuals who don't show their emotion and provide financial stability for their wives. This is shown in numerous films and television shows and even advertisements and can take a toll on young boys and men.
2. Men "do" or perform masculinity by playing sports, holding positions of power in their careers or politics or even their household, by not crying or showing signs of weakness.
3. Masculinity has an impact on the relationship between a man and a women because it makes it seem as if the man should wear the pants in the relationship and be dominant over a woman. It makes it seem as if they should make more money out of the two and be the breadwinner of the relationship when in reality this is not the case.
4. a. The relationship between sexism, homophobia, and masculinity is if you are not masculine enough or posses feminine qualities, it is seen as a bad thing which is sexist, you may get made fun of by your peers or called "gay" as a derogatory term which is homophobic.
b. The relationship between violence and masculinity is in order to be seen as masculine you have to be able to defend yourself and be aggressive when necessary. For example, if a man were to back down from a fight or not hit back he will likely be made fun of for not giving in to the violence.
5. The media plays a huge role in socializing masculinity, as I mentioned previously. By showing men as powerful figures with beautiful women by their side, nice cars and material goods, and money. Young boys view these images, television shows, and movies and look up to them as media is the number one outlet.
6. Men need to be aware that it is okay to show your emotion, it is healthy and means you are human. They need to know it is okay to develop healthy friendships and relationships with other men. They need to stop being afraid of being seen as not masculine because the media says so. I think by instilling this in young boys, we could make a change.

The Mask You Live InGive an example of how masculinity is socially constructed in our society.Men are not expected to cry. Men are expected to be tough. Masculinity is associated with size, strength and athletic ability. Men are expected to play sports. Men are in charge. Men have to prove themselves. Men are not supposed to show pain. Men are socialized to not show empathy or any emotion whatsoever. Describe a way men “do” or perform masculinity.Men play football; they show toughness. They don’t cry and don’t talk about feelings or show emotions.Men don’t tattle tell, they fight back. Men are womanizers; they are dominant. Man uses aggression. Men have wealth and economic success. Men have a lot of girlfriends or sexual conquests. Men are expected to be strong. Men drink and may smoke weed. What is the impact of masculinity on the relationship between men and women?Men are not expected to be emotionally open. Men are not expected to be sensitive. This can create problems in communicating with each other. What the relationship:between sexism, homophobia, and masculinity?Sexism is usually one sex against another - men versus women. Homophobia is an irrational fear of homosexuals and be shown by either men or women. Masculinity can be a way of showing sexism and homophobia. When you are masculine, you may be peer pressured into showing wrong behavior towards someone of a different sex (sexism), gender preference (homophobia). between violence and masculinity?Men are expected to show violence, to be tough and aggressive. What role does the media take in socializing masculinity?Gender ends up being constructed by media; images are shown in media that reflect how men should behave. Young boys and girls take their cues from what they see in media. Describe a solution to one of the problems presented in the film.We need to redefine what it means to have strength in men. Men should not be afraid to speak up and say something different about what society has conditioned people to think is manly. Having empathy is a human characteristic, and not a feminine characteristic. Men should be allowed to have emotions.

1. Give an example of how masculinity is socially constructed in our society.

> Masculinity is socially constructed in our society in many ways. One way, is through expectations. In our society, as we are growing up, adults are constantly showing and teaching us our roles. In males, teachers, coaches, and parents will constantly tell boys, "you have to be strong", "be a man", "boys don't cry". Adults in their environment, expect for them to be "manly", "strong men without too much empathy", they tell them they have to be like this because thats their role as males.

2. Describe a way men “do” or perform masculinity.

> One way that men performs masculinity is by showing strength. They can do this literally, by working out and gaining more muscle. Or figuratevely by not showing fear, or sadness. They can show strength through bravery.

3. What is the impact of masculinity on the relationship between men and women?
> The impact of masculinity between men and women is very big. Masculinity creates a divide between man and women. It causes men to think that if they show any femininity, such as feeling or empathy, they are weak and it is wrong. This may even cause men to think that they are superior to women. They may also be unable to communicate with women because they haven't practiced empathy or sharing their feelings.

4. What the relationship:
A) Between sexism, homophobia, and masculinity?
     > Masculinity causes a divide between men and women, it causes men to be unable to connect with women. This goes hand in hand with sexism, men can think they are superior to women because they are unable to connect with them. Men can be homophobic because they are afraid of being associated to anything feminine. They are scared to be seen as empathetic and caring because they feel they must be masculine.
B) between violence and masculinity?
> Many men think that showing anger, violence, and brutality they are displaying masculinity. Masculinity is shown through bravery and strength. By men showing they are strong and brave , they may act violent and brutal in a certain situation.

5. What role does the media take in socializing masculinity?
> Media plays a big role in socializing masculinity. The media is constantly displaying what people should be and what is expected of us. The media is constantly displaying that men should be masculine, they should be strong, without empathy and even violent. The media always shows men with big muscles, hard faces, and usually carrying guns and fighting. They show that thats what men do.

6. Describe a solution to one of the problems presented in the film.
> One of the problems presented in the film is that many boys are expected to be "masculine" at a very young age. I feel that they need a mentor, or adults that will help them to be more empathetic. For example in the film, there are mentors who dedicate themselves to helping out the boys in expressing their feelings, and giving them someone to talk to. It is always important to have someone that you can express how you really feel to, and that you can count on to be there for you.

Give an example of how masculinity is socially constructed in our society.

Boys learn that they should be cruel and violent in order to be a man, and hide their feelings. The violent things they learn to do is football, no feelings expression... etc.
Describe a way men “do” or perform masculinity.
Men perform masculinity by either using bad words or exercise harshly at the gym in order to get those masculine muscle.
What is the impact of masculinity on the relationship between men and women? Men learn that they have the power over women because they are "men". So they think that controlling women is a "man" thing. It produces a society where men and women are not equally treated, because men are more powerful than women.
What the relationship:

a) between sexism, homophobia, and masculinity?
Homophobia is the phobia or discrimination that men hold against transgenders, gays... Sexism is also a discrimination against the other gender. Masculinity is the behavior of men that they practice in the society, and this society expects this masculine behavior. The relationship between those terms is that sexism and masculinity is more related to men control and power. Society expects men not to be gentle and behave like girls. At the same time, boys learn that power is good because this power can bring him better positions either in work or society, and that's how men favors men over women, and "straight" men over gays or transgenders.
b) between violence and masculinity?
Men learn that violence is a part of becoming a man because he can defend himself. Society expects men to be strong and able to fight back because being a "masculine" is an important part of being a man. They fight back violently.
What role does the media take in socializing masculinity?

Showing that men are considered as men when they appear on the screen with a strong body with abs. They also convince the viewers on how this man because of his muscles and strength is respected by the society and loved by the girls.
Describe a solution to one of the problems presented in the film.
One of the problems that were presented in the film is insecure and depression. Parents should give your son the free space to express their feelings, let them cry if they needed to, because hiding their feelings will affect his grades and his life in the future, so just listen to them.

The Mask You Live In

1. Give an example of how masculinity is socially constructed in our society.
Masculinity is socially structured because at a young age boys are taught that being a man consist of getting with women, being tough and strong, and having money. Boys are taught that these things are the definition to how to become a man.

Describe a way men “do” or perform masculinity.

A way that men can preform masculinity is by being a boy or man who engages in sports or the gym. For example most boys join a basketball team or football team. You wouldn't be considered a "man" if you were to join the dance or cheerleading team.

1.What is the impact of masculinity on the relationship between men and women? Men have to be the one who shows power over the women in a relationship. They are meant to lead the house hold and take care of the family by protecting them with strength and power.

What the relationship between sexism, homophobia, and masculinity? They are all controlled by social culture. To be masculine you show signs of being sexist and homophobia. This is because of the culture we live in and how people view others. Men have to act and be a certain way in order to keep there masculinity.

whats the relationship between violence and masculinity? Masculinity can be considered as an act of toughness and strength meaning a guy might show violence in order to prove that he is a man and doesn't back down for anyone.

What role does the media take in socializing masculinity? The media takes on a huge role of socializing for both males and females. Males in the movies all have the role of being the hero or the tough guy who shuts people out and this give young male viewers and even male adults an image they can take on. This effects them and they get the idea from media that being what men are on out Tv's is the right thing.

4.Describe a solution to one of the problems presented in the film. I think to help prevent male building in schools we can promote support group and maybe even a class for students to take to be aware of the damage students do when they bully other young boys.
