Life can get in the way, no matter what, because we are all human. When it comes to a child’s well-being, you as a parent will always have his/her best interest at heart. I aspire to take the time, to tell you that a child’s learning experience starts at home. You as a parent, are your child’s first teacher, and as a teacher, I am here to support you. Like I said, life can get in the way, but I believe if we are aware of the problems, then we can fix them. Let’s work together to make something that seems impossible, possible. In other words, let's partner together so your child can succeed both at school and at home.

The Wall Between Teacher & Parent

What am I referring to when I say "The Wall"? It means the barrier that can sometimes occur between teacher and parent. It is a problem, and although this issue does not always start in a particular place, it is, however, connected with the relationship between teacher and parent. Here are some ways that can keep teachers and parent’s from being able to support each other.

Cultural and Language Barriers: It isn’t always easy to communicate with a child’s teacher who comes from a different background than yours.

Time: Some families have very busy home lives and do not have the extra time to connect with teachers for information about their child’s education (this is clearly understandable).

Busyness and Other Personal Problems: Life can sometimes get in the way.

Knowledge: A parent does not know how to be involved or how to continue their child's education at home. This is due to lack of communication on the teacher’s part.

Lack of Communication: It is the teacher's responsibility to initiate discussion about how a parent can be involved in their child’s education.

First review the most common parts of speech. Noun, Verb, Adjective, Adverb, Pronoun, Preposition, Conjunction, and Interjection.
2. Then label each bag with one part of speech name.
3. Have your child write down one word of their choice on each card.
4. Help your child identify each word and place them in the appropriate bag.

5. If you want to go further with this activity, then you can have your child choose one word from each bag, and then use the word to form a sentence. Continue until all of them have been taken out of the bags.
6. For younger children, only change the activity by writing each letter of the alphabet on its bag and have your child identify the first letter of each word and place them in the right bag.

Sink or Float

What you Need:

Plastic dishpan or deep container

Small household items. Label one construction paper with the word "sink" and the other piece of paper with "float".

Talk to your child about the words “sink” and “float”. And tell them that you are going to see which objects are going to sink and float.

Ask him/her to guess which objects will sink and which one will float. Place each object next to the appropriate sheet of construction paper based on the prediction.

Next, fill the container halfway with some water. Choose one of the objects and place it into the water. Observe whether it sinks or floats and talk about each prediction.
