         <description><![CDATA[<div>Odysseus and his men arrived at Ismarus (home of Cicones). It was here that they showed their hubris side. They "stormed that place and killed the men who fought./Plunder we took, and we enslaved the women"(Book 9, ln. 44-45). Then, the Cicones reinforcements came and fought back. Outnumbered, Odysseus lost 6 of his men, but they were finally able to escape by sea.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>After leaving Ismarus, a storm swept Odysseus's ship to the land of the Lotus Eaters.There, the natives were "only offering the sweet Lotos to our friends—/but those who ate this honeyed plant, the Lotos,/never cared to report, nor to return" (Book 9, ln. 97-99). It was only after Odysseus dragged them back to the ship were they able to snap out of their trance and continue on their journey.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Odysseus and his crew sailed to land of the Cyclopes. They met Polyphemus, son of Poseidon. Unfortunately, Cyclops turned hostile by imprisoning them in his cave for food. Odysseus devised a plan; he got the Cyclops drunk, revealed that his name is "Nohbdy", then blinded him. Then, Odysseus said, "I drew on all my wits, and ran through tactics,/ reasoning as a man will for dear life,/until a trick came - and it pleased me well." (Book 9, ln. 441-443). Thanks to Odysseus's ingenious plan, they were all able to break from Polyphemus's grasp.</div>]]></description>

Other Laestrygonians giants started appearing, and Odysseus and his men scrambled to sail off without rest.</div>]]></description>

Then, Hermes came and gave Odysseus an herb to protect him from Circe's spell. He overpowered her, and became Circe's lover. Odysseus and his men lived there for a year before he asked Circe how to get home. Circe told him to go to the Underworld and speak with Tiresias who will tell him of the way home.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Odysseus and his men then approached the island of the Sirens. Following Circe's instructions, Odysseus plugged his men's ears with beeswax, then tied himself to the ship's mast to hear the Sirens' song. After, the crew must go through the straits between Scylla and Charybdis. As told by Circe, Odysseus chose to stick close to Scylla's side and lost 6 men instead of having the whole ship devoured by Charybdis. In the end, Odysseus and his crew were able to sail on after the whole ordeal.</div>]]></description>

         <title>5:40 - Special World &gt; Cattle of the Sun God</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Odysseus then sailed to Thrinacia, island of the Sun. A storm kept the crew there for a month. Odysseus warned his men to never touch the cattle there, or doom will befall them. At first, the men survived on their leftover provisions on the ship. But food eventually ran out, so the men disobeyed Odysseus's order and slaughtered Helios's beloved cattle. Helios found out and asked Zeus to punish them. Zeus stirred another storm and sent all of Odysseus's men to their deaths. As predicted, only Odysseus survived.</div>]]></description>

However, Odysseus soon grew restless and insisted on going home, but Calypso cast a spell on him to make him stay longer. At last, Hermes came and ordered Calypso to release Odysseus. Calypso was forced to help Odysseus pack things for his journey home, then sent him off bitterly.</div>]]></description>
