ADHD is diagnosed by healthcare providers using the guidelines given by the American Psychiatric Associations Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (5th edition) also known as, DSM-5. The patient or client will explain their symptoms to the healthcare provider, and they will use those provided symptoms and the DSM-5 manual to decide if they are diagnosed with ADHD. It is also very typical for the healthcare provider to conduct a detailed assessment that may include a physical examination and a series of interviews.
