Out of all the characters in A Child Called It, Dave changed the most. In the beginning of the book, he was still a small child. His mother hadn't started torturing or neglecting him yet. Eventually, when his mother started drinking heavily, Dave lost all hope for his life. The only emotion he felt anymore was hate. A Child Called It ends with Dave as an adult by the river he played at as a child before his mother started abusing him. He is reflecting on his life and how he remained positive and how it all worked out. His son is with him and his son tells him that he's having fun and it makes Dave happy. I would give this book a ten out of ten because it was the most emotional book I've ever read. Personally, I enjoy emotional stories and often they are fiction stories. This book was the only non fiction book that has ever made me cry and I really enjoyed it.
