Symptoms and Treatment

Symptoms - fever, headache, body aching, vomiting, mouth sores and blisters, rashes and blindness
Treatment - the only way to treat smallpox is my vaccination within 4 days of infection to the disease.
Vaccinations - In attempts to suppress this devastating disease, Variolation, one method of vaccination was the use of the virus variola, which caused Smallpox. This method introduced Variola, from smallpox sores, by scratching or inhaling to enter the body. Due to this, most people would obtain symptoms related with smallpox, however less people died from variolation rather than naturally obtaining smallpox. This process was used to control the virus, however would later prove more useful.
In 1796, however, Edward Jenner, an English doctor, figured out that milkmaids who had previously acquired cowpox, did not appear to show symptoms of smallpox, even after the process of variolation. With this knowledge, he created an experiment where he introduced material from cowpox sores into a boy, Phipps, then later exposed, the same boy, to the variola virus. The conclusion was that Phipps had never obtained smallpox. Thus, creating the vaccination that later would create the eradication of smallpox.
