Unfortunately, the original production and distribution company names and logos that we created were lost before we could put them in our film. Our original idents followed the colour scheme of the film (reds/blues for Spiderman).
We later used Universal as our distribution company, as we had mentioned it in early blog posts.

Choosing Universal

We chose the distribution company Universal in our blog posts not just because it's a recognisable, big-name company, but because of the wide variety of films that it distributes.
Indie films such as Juno were distributed by Universal, which makes them more likely to accept our film, which is also a small, independent production.
Kick-Ass, our base-guide film, was also distributed by Universal.
In fact, Universal are so varied that they're even working with Netflix on their independent remake of the series Voltron to make a film in 2023.

Universal would be the obvious choice of film distribution company because it distributed Kick-Ass, our reference film.
There's more to this, though; Universal distributes a large number of films marketed at children, teenagers, and pop culture; such as Despicable Me, Pitch Perfect and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
Many indie films that they have distributed have become highly successful even considering their budget, and have gone on to make stars like Michael Cera (Juno, Superbad, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) very famous among teenagers. Using this company would give our film a much larger success rate in terms of actor success, box office, and cinemas that would show our film.

Why Universal is the best fit

Other than Universal's vast array of films in different genres and willingness to take on independent films, we also looked at other distribution companies and found them to be inadequate or unfitting to our style and genre of film.
We looked at 20th Century Fox, which does, in fact, distribute some films of the superhero genre; but mostly looks at higher-budget films which are more likely to be very successful, such as Independence Day, The Simpsons Movie, and Star Wars.
Lionsgate Films seemed to be that bit too indie for my group, having distributed many films that we had never heard of before; we thought that our film would probably not have much success if we came to them.

Universal gave our film the best chance of exposure; with a pretty definite chance of getting into cinemas on even a wider scale than the UK (although it probably would not have great reception in another country). Universal are also very good at advertising online and work with companies like Netflix which could give us the opportunity for online release; appealing more to a younger audience, which is what we wanted.
We'd like to be able to advertise on social media also, which Universal as a big name company would help us to do. Since so many of their films are targeted at teenagers, it's going to be easier for us to reach them as a group.

Realistically, we would go for a restricted local release of our film, at a small cinema that premiers independent films. In thinking about this, perhaps Lionsgate would have been more fitting, had the genre of our film not been so.
After being shown at the small cinema, our film was posted on Vimeo. This would be good for us as a teen film to get our film noticed, as teenagers tend to spend more time on the internet than they do watching TV, less often drive cars and so won't notice billboards, and don't read as many newspapers and magazines as their parents.
Having a DVD release may also be an option - however, as a teen film, we are less likely to do this as compared to being able to buy a downloadable version, as we would get less profit from physical copies being distributed.
